Bring Back the Red to Cougar Field
ChairBack Campaign Looks to Improve Cougar Field

Feb. 9, 2009

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston baseball team is looking to "Bring Back the Red to Cougar Field."

After 14 years, the weather has taken a toll on the appearance of the chairback seats at Cougar Field and as a result the baseball program plans to replace the faded seats with new and more comfortable red seats to "Bring Back the Red."

In order to do so we need the help of our fans, alumni, former players and sponsors to donate funds towards the purchase of a chairback seat. When you chose to support the Cougar Baseball Program, for a fee of $250 a red chairback seat will be personalized with your name or you can chose to honor a favorite former player, friend or family member. The name you chose will remain on the seat for a minimum of 10 years.

Cougar Pride members that purchase a chairback seat and make a Cougar Pride donation equal to last year's amount will be credited 100 percent of the chairback donation to their Cougar Pride donation level for the current fiscal year.

Head coach Rayner Noble knows the importance of this project to the program.

"This is a great way to honor and recognize our former players and other individuals who have contributed to the success of our baseball program," Noble said.

From a recruiting standpoint, we have to keep our facilities top notch. It's been 14 years since the seats were put in and we've just got a lot of issues, from the facilities standpoint that we've got to address and we're just starting with the chairs."

Maintaining the quality of the Cougar baseball facilities continues to be a priority.

"Once we've got this project done, we're just getting started," Noble said. "We've got so many things that we want to accomplish, just to get our facilities back to where it's one of the finest ones in the state. We felt that the seats were the most important because that's where our fans sit."

The Athletics Department has sold over half the chairbacks necessary to begin the installation process of the nearly 900 chairback seats within Cougar Field. With the increased exposure of this project due to the upcoming baseball season, it is anticipated that the new chairbacks will be installed prior to the start of the 2010 Cougar baseball season.

RE: Bring Back The Red Chairs
I like this program. We need to do more fund raisers like this that keep the alumni involved.
