I had my first one tonight. It's like an angel pissing on your tongue.

My mouth is watering. 04-cheers And, no sh!t on the Michigan locale! My buddy and I are planning a Michigan Brew Crawl in October. We really want to also check out Grand Rapids and Traverse City. Any breweries in those cities?

Founders is the biggest, and to most, the best in GR.

Just down the street is the best beer bar, HopCat. They have something like 48 taps, 150 bottles, and a cask or two.

As for brewpubs,The Hideout has some pretty good stuff. The B.O.B., Grand Rapids Brewing Company, and Schmoz are all in the greater Grand Rapids area and have something decent to offer.

I'm not as familiar with Traverse City, but I think the people that own Grand Rapids Brewing Company also run a brewpub in TC.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd provide links. A quick google search should get you websites.

Beeradvocate.com is also a great resource for all things beer. They do beer guides to a ton of cities/regions and allow for user reviews of both beers and places. (no financial ties, so please don't ding me for pimpin' another site)

RE: What have you been drinking lately?
I'm not well versed, but one UP brewery that comes to mind is Keweenaw Brewing Company in Houghton. What I remember drinking (a blonde, red, brown ales) were somewhat pedestrian, but come in cans which can be nice. Actually, I was planning on picking some up for a byob golf outing tomorrow. No bottles allowed.

Lush,

I just came across a thread on spots to hit in the UP. Edit: I meant to say "in da UP"

http://beeradvocate.com/forum/read/2070319

You may need to become a member (it's free) to read the whole thing. Sorry, but I'd feel that I'm cheating BA if I were to do a cut and paste job.

Thanks! I'm going to check out the New Glarus Brewing Co in New Glarus, WI on Thursday and hopefully a brewery river walk in Milwaukee on Saturday.

I go through phases. Every once in awhile I can't get enough hops. Then I'll get hooked on malt bombs and everything in between. In the past week or so I've been drinking a lot of pilseners (mainly Bitburger).

My "go to" IPA is Bell's Two Hearted. Do you have a suggestion?

Thanks for the suggestions. I've had Hopslam 04-rock Stoudts is available in MI, so I'll keep my eyes open for their Double IPA the next time I hit the bottle shop. I don't believe Bison or Buckeye are distributed my way. Next time I'm on the road, I'll check things out.
