Since he committed makes sense to have own thread not on back end of Caleb Watkins one.

Graded 77 on espn; they listed considering Michigan, Wake, Purdue, Louisville. Ohio State also listed as interested on Rivals.

Evaluation

Brown is a terrific athlete with an excellent combination of size, speed and strength. He possesses wonderful measurables and growth potential to his frame. While he is a quarterback in a run heavy, option scheme and does an excellent job running the offense, in all likelihood he will end up making the move to wide receiver or safety/outside linebacker on defense. He shows good command of this scheme, but gets few passing opportunities so he would be somewhat behind in terms of his knowledge of the passing game at the collegiate level. Has a good arm-- will flash good strength and RPM's and surprise you at times with his ability to zip the ball into the short and intermediate ranges of the field. Also shows the ability to add touch to throws which require some air. The majority of his production however is going to come on the ground with his legs. He has a very good feel for the option. Runs low, understands and executes keep/pitch responsibilities and does a good job with his keys. Has a long stride and really covers some ground when he gets going. Shows elusive speed and quickness. He isn't a burner and may not always be quick-twitch in his acceleration, but he can change directions and stop and start quickly for a player his size. Has the strength and toughness to lower his shoulder and run over DB's at the second level. Runs with authority and determination. If he were to stay at QB, the shotgun spread would give him the best opportunity for success, especially in the passing game in terms of dinking and dunking. He can do all the rest with his legs. Brown has good overall football awareness and is just a good player that may need to switch positions for the next level.

RE: Dominique Brown
So, for the knowledgable people out there.....Is he likely to be more af an Athlete recruit than a QB? Or is this likely our QB recruit for 2010? Should be a good player either way it sounds like

I saw him 2x last year. Doubt he playe QB. Lights out athlete with size, though.

EDIT: this video might change my mind, though.

RE: Dominique Brown
Nice video posting Rath. You can see his mechanics need work but lots of athleticism. A lot of those plays the WW receiver blows by defenders and catches up to the ball Dominique throws; good strong arm but not a lot of touch from the video.

I'm sure BK will work with him and give him a shot at QB. He has better QB skills at this point in his career than Goodie had coming out of Colerain.

Very good pick up by the Cats.

Edit: I expect the Bearcats will take at least one more QB this class.

RE: Dominique Brown
I saw him play against Anderson this past year and he killed them running the ball. Even on small gainers he made something out of nothing.

That video shows an arm I hadn't seen. Some of those throws are getting there PDQ.

I asked where he would play and was told he will probably get a shot at QB at first. However, we all know that he will ultimately be used where we need him most.

RE: Dominique Brown
I know it's been said that he has more skill at QB than Goodie...but I bet he'll end up in the same place. Kid has athleticism, and in all honesty, catching a ball and running a route is a lot easier to teach a kid than a 5 read system in a shotgun set with no prior experience. Plus if we land Watkins like most of the Yappi board is reporting, I think he'll be the "QB Recruit" for the class.

RE: Dominique Brown
He'll be a WR or LB. He is probably the best overall athlete in Cincinnati and that includes Spencer Ware.
I'll make a fairly bold prediction and say he'll end up being the best player in UC's recruiting class.

Even over Tentman and Schloemer? They both have a huge upside and are already both special talents...I definately wouldn't be surprised seeing either one of them start at some point in 2010.

RE: Dominique Brown
I think Brown has to be a linebacker. I wouldn't mind seeing him play safety, but it is really hard to project if he has the short area quickness or hips to play in the secondary. He is a big, physical presence who clearly has no problem playing downhill. There isn't a ton of difference between playing QB in the flexbone or linebacker. Ryan Cheek, a target from last years class played both positions for Lancaster and played them both very well. I think linebacker is where he has the best chance to succeed in the long term.

I think comparing Brown to Schlomer is like apples to oranges. Both are completely different. Per projected position, I'd say they are definitely in the top 3-4 in the class, but since they're different, would you give either a firm #1?

Not at all, at least not yet...I was just serprised that Brown's name would come up before either of them, especially because he is quite unproven at what ever position he is made to play in college.
