Rece Davis, Lou Holtz, and Mark May said some very nice things during their show. It definitely didn't go unnoticed.

What were they expecting? Did they think Mountaineer fans would be @ssholes after such a tragic event?

I think back to the sneering toward the pregame handshakes the AFCA encouraged teams to try. Some laughed at the idea outright, and some coaches had such low expectations for their own players, they decided not to try it at all--fights 'might' break out, just like they do in those post-game prayers that members from both squads often kneel for. 01-wingedeagle

It's telling that it takes an event like the Jasper Howard tragedy to force our players and us fans to put the athletic competition that they love in its proper place. We all seemed to be a little better at it once before, though I'm probably just being naive.

The pregame handshakes encouraged by the AFCA was a planned demonstration. There was nothing behind it, but the planning organization...

This was a spontaneous emotional display as a reaction to a senseless murder of one who had their entire life ahead of them, which was taken in an instant...

Coach Stewart, the team, and the fans expressed it for all of us.
