Football Dinosaurs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_def...ball_teams

Just came across this and felt like posting it, especially since a couple more bit the dust in 2009...kinda scary.

RE: Football Dinosaurs
I used to go to Long Beach State games when I lived in Long Beach. They lost almost every game I saw. But I left California 6 years before they disbanded the program. They didn't win many games after I left, so you can imagine how many people cared that the program was discontinued...

Probably just East Tennessee when we were in the OVC, but Tulane of CUSA had a "prayer meeting" a few years ago; also, in my conference (MAC), Bowling Green has had 'the discussion' recently and EMU may be running on fumes. I guess I shouldn't be too worried since Akron just built a new stadium and the admin. appears committed.

I wish I could have gone to a Denver game. I hear a lot about their program and former stadium from their fans. But they'll never come back.

RE: Football Dinosaurs
It was interesting how many of the schools that dropped football were small private schools......many of which were urban Catholic universitities.

RE: Football Dinosaurs
That's over a really long period of time, so I don't see any real trend or concern.

In the mean time, look at all the schools starting football and/or moving up to higher divisions (just recently):

Boise St
Idaho
Buffalo
FIU
FAU
UConn
USF
UCF
WKU
MTSU
UC Davis
Towson

The point being that I listed recent additions (which I cleverly pointed to when I wrote "Just recently")...I didn't go back 70 years like the Wiki did.

Even if you had gone back 70 years or more, your list would still be shorter...

Probably so. But I still see no concern that this is "scary".

i think it's good that some of these teams have ended their football programs. maybe they'll finally be able to give baseball some more scholarships.
