Just look at the teams any way you want to stack them and UCF/USF stand out like a sore thumb. IMO, I don't see this as a legitimate possibility.

The story actually pointed out current sore thumbs - USF in the BIG EAST and Boston College in the ACC. I don't know if this is even on the Big 12's radar, but I don't think I would be shocked if they consider it because there are no "slam dunk" teams for them. Arkansas isn't leaving the SEC. I would suspect the Texas schools would prevent TCU and Houston from joining. And BYU has the Sunday thing to deal with (which may or may not be an issue).

The Orlando Sentinel has also mentioned UCF as a Big 12 candidate.

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2010...ge-o-leary

Quote:UCF also has been listed as potential candidates to join Atlantic Coast Conference or Big 12 Conference if there is an extreme reshuffling of all major conferences.

The only draw back I see is travel. Orlando and Tampa are major airports and flights to large Tex city's are fairly cheap. They would gain markets big enough to replace what they would lose. It would have to be good for recruiting. More positives than negatives.

Yeah, but is it any bigger than if they added BYU and UTah?

I don't see USF and UCF being high priorities for the Big 12, but I do not think geography will be that big a deal since any addition for the Big XII will be far away. For example, a non stop flight from Austin to Tampa is 2 hours and 40 minutes. A non stop flight from Austin to Denver is 2 hours and 15 minutes. Of course, if you are driving, the distances get much greater since you have to drive around the Gulf, but flight time, it is not that far away.

Further, Utah and BYU are MUCH further away both flight and distance wise, and in the mountain Time zone, a deadzone for television. Plus it takes even longer to get to either one, as the Salt Lake City airport is smal, and fewer direct flights from cities in Texas and Oklahoma. Orlando and Tampa, large tourist cities, all have direct flights from every major city in Texas, and Oklahoma City on Southwest, which makes fan travel inexpensive, and team travel cheaper as many nonrevenue sports fly commercial.

I can think of 10 other teams the Big 12 would go after before those two.

Will never, ever happen.
Agree. To check out what Texas fans are thinking, see this. Doesn't include any thought of any BE or C-USA East teams:

Quote:Put the Florida schools in the Big 12 - which in my opinion is stronger than the ACC - and it wouldn't take very long for UCF/USF to become major players in college football given each schools' location and recruiting base. If I were Florida State and Miami, I'd be very, very worried when it comes to their de facto status as the No. 2 and 3 teams in the state.

So many things wrong with this paragraph.

USF and UCF will go to an established conference, in a division that includes Texas and Texas A & M, and somehow manage to become "major players" in conference football concurrently? Logic and reasoning flew out the window and are replaced with unreal expectations and extreme homerism. Texas is the top university in athletics. The same university that already has 20 committed prospects that will be 4-5 stars and we're excited when we sign (2) 4 stars in a class. I'd love to join the Big XII because it means we're still in a BCS conference but it would be reasonable to think we'd struggle to ever win our division. Don't forget that together we'd make up 33% of our division so the idea of us both becoming "major" at the same time is unlikely.

This is before you take into account that Texas wants nothing to do with either of us.

Was the author of this being serious or was he trying to provide some comic relief because all I can say is ......04-jawdrop

Nothing like reading an expansion article written by a fanboy of a school.

Well if this would come to fruition then more than likely the Texas schools will be in one division and the Florida schools will be in the other. There is no way they would be placed in the same division for those schools would be racking up some serious frequent flyer miles. I think this could work, but it would really help out if Mizzou is able to stay for some chance and the Big Twelve picks up Memphis for this would help tie Louisville better to the footprint of the conference. I think the Big Twelve would be much better of a conference if they indeed lose Colorado pick up Memphis, Louisville, and both South Florida and Central Florida giving the the Big 12 a major presence amongst the precious SEC country. Some thing we all know they would love to have, and the SEC would hate to see.

A capacity crowd of 45,266 packed inside Bright House Networks Stadium on Sept. 15, 2007 where they saw the Knights take a fourth-quarter lead before eventually falling to the No. 6 Longhorns, 35-32.

In the future, could we see Texas return to UCF for a conference game? Could the Big 12, not the BIG EAST, be the future destination for UCF's athletic programs?

Throwing out conference realignment scenarios - by fans and media alike - is a popular thing these days, so here's mine:

A marriage of the two biggest football hotbeds in the nation-- Texas and Florida. A future Big 12 that includes UCF and USF.

Big 12 Should Look to UCF, USF

Article from 5 years ago, hits on some of the criteria that is being look at today.

A lot has changed since 2010 for UCF (added 3 Conf Championships, played for another, won a BCS Bowl Game, Top 10 Finish, TV market is now #18)...and the TV $$$ mentioned 5 years ago have jumped even higher today (especially with the Big Ten and SEC TV Networks).

This was a good read 5 years ago...and still a good read today.
