This thread is an utter failure. This is why TCU is the best choice:

TCU is in the top 5 in the country and they have been ranked up there for the past two years. Did you know that they do not even fill up their stadium on a constant basis? If the Big East is looking for relevance regarding TV markets lets talk about attendance....

ECU averaged 42800 per game last year with 7k less seats. We added 7k seats and have NEW butts in those seats every week. We are averaging 49900 for every game this year. Place holds 50k now. Tell me where you could have that type of drastic increase in one year and cover it in the Big Least much less anywhere in the country. This market will get the Big Least the Eastern NC market which is #103, the Tidewater/Norfolk/Richmond Market-top 50, the Raleigh/Durham Chapel Hill Market #27, the Charlotte Market-top 25, the Greensboro/Winston Salem Market-top 100, the Wilmington Market-top 125 and the Florence/Myrtle Beach Market #104. The Big Least doesnt exist here and there are a TON of Syracuse, WVU, Rutgers, and Pitt alums in the NC area.

UCF averages 41k in a 45300 capacity stadium. Only time they filled it up was when Texas came to town and UT folks bought up thousands of season tix (since they were so cheap) in order to get tix for the game. Two weeks ago when we come to town for arguably their biggest game in their program's history, they could only get about 39k people there and they had to give away tix. For a student population of 50k+, they sure seem to care about their football...yeah right! No one outside of those 41k fans that go to the games actually care about UCF. What will that market get for the Big Least that USF hasnt already?

TCU averages about 40k in a 45k stadium. That preaches irrelevance to me especially in a LARGE metro area like DFW. No one there cares. Mostly a UT and A&M crowd. What will that market get for the Big Least?

Houston is even more irrelevant as they have had a top 25 program for most of the past 3 years and exept for the TTU game last year, I dont think they even sold their stadium out again. Last year they averaged 25k in 40k stadium. Scary thing is that they are talking about expanding! Wow that place will look like Legion Field or the Liberty Bowl if they do that. It will look even more sparse! No one in Houston cares about UH. What will that market get for the Big Least?

Villanova-yeah we all know no one cares about Villanova or Temple football in Philadelphia. Its all Penn State or Pro ball there. Plus Villanova has a LONG way to go with attendance (6500 avg per game) in order to get to D1 standards. The stadium issue is a whole new animal.

All this looks pretty obvious to me and I havent even brought up the products they put on the field or even other sports for that matter. If you are looking for basic interest from TV markets and just the general relevance or each program, I rank the best choices in this order. ECU, UCF, TCU, UH, Temple, Villanova. Pretty obvious I think.

Hey Big 10 or SEC...We are the best choice to join you out of the Big East. We have spent 1.5 billion dollars on facilities....New 22,000 seat basketball arena #1 Bball attendance in the Big East....The womens team averages 8,000 as well. New football stadium thats seats 55,000 with the #2 attendance in the Big East at 51,000, the stadium will be expanded to 82,000 in due time...Mens soccer #1 in the country with games that have drawn 4,000....Baseball top notch in the Big East now. #1 NCAA basketball tourney veiwership year in and out. A city with a metro population of 1.2 million, no pro sports because people like college more than pro. Academics improving by leaps and bounds. We also have the most important thing...Top revenue in the Big East...After 2010-2011 Louisville will be top 25 in revenue, in the country. Its not like we dont have tradition....8 final fours...2 titles...The womens team just played for the title...We have won the Fiesta and Orange bowls....25 players in the NFL as we speak....If Michigan State can be in the Big 10 why not Louisville.....If Ole Miss or Arkansas can be in the SEC why not Louisville? I just know our AD has done everything right to put us as a solid choice for these two conferences...Im sick of who is leaving the Big East next crap or who is joining....The Big East in football is not relivant because of the northern basketball ties and I have had enough. I hope we split in football. If not I hope Louisville splits...Going INDY in football would be much better....Now go on my ECU and UCF pals.....Maybe you will be taking UofLs spot.

Game attendance has nothing to do with TV market share. There is no argument that ECU has a great fan base. Only BYU has better attendance among non AQ teams...The problem is...That TCU and UCF,UH,Nova and Temple are located in much bigger TV markets. It does not even matter if people watch...it is the subscribers that matter. The BE wants to start its on network and those subscribers in the large markets are what is attractive. It sucks or us...but that is just the way it is. Some submit that Greenville is in the Raleigh/Durham area...but the Nielson does not agree.

It doesn't matter what Nielsen says. All they did was draw tv lines in an arbitrary fashion.
This will be about the Big East working with the cable operators to secure placement. That's it. It becomes a pure numbers game at that point.

Memphis is a guaranteed win for Big East members trying to get bowl eligible. It doesn't get much more positive than that.

Not too shabby, although I think that Clydesdale on the far left got lost on her way to a Budweiser commercial.

You and I may think that...but..at the end of the day we lose that game. It is pretty clear that the BE leadership is looking to the metro markets again.
We might as well deal with it. It is going take several No's before we have any chance to say yes.03-banghead

Fo Shizzle, you may be correct about the metro markets. But don't sell the BE decision makers short. It does matter who watches and yes, it is possible subscribers that matter. No one has a crystal ball and I have to believe the BE is gathering all the facts that would indicate whether the expansion candidates in urban markets have enough clout within their respective DMA's to get a BE network on a basic cable lineup. TCU is a different animal due to their recent success and national exposure. Will the addition of Houston warrant the addition of a BEN to the DMA's cable lineup (this will raise cable rates). How about UCF, Memphis, Villanova, Temple.....even ECU.

I still say that blindly going after big markets, without any indication as to the ability of teams to "deliver" all or parts of the markets, will not result in either a Big East Network or a sizeable TV contract. The networks bidding on the contract will easily see they have no competition from the threat of a Big East network.
