Admittedly, the NYT opinion pages are a severely biased sample to begin with. But within that set, Brooks is not bad. At least he's not irresponsible, like some of the clowns that NYT syndicates.

Well, now that it is here, I will comment.

I have seen Brooks from time to time on "This Week" on ABC. Last time I saw him he made a statement as fact that was directly refuted by the clip that was played not 5 minutes before he made his statement. Apparently he is not one to let the facts get in the way of a good opinion.

Notwithstanding that, I can think of worse people to give the commencement talk.

Of course, I can think of many, many, many better people to give the talk.

David Brooks - one of just a handful of Owls to ever homer in his final collegiate at-bat - why not let him do the commencement address?

Or maybe we're talking about a different David Brooks.

I'd say he's a good choice - won't offend either side of the political spectrum. I respect him as a generally conservative commentator who is thoughtful, not a Republican mouthpiece.

+1. I like listening to him and EJ Dionne on All Things Considered every Friday afternoon. They make a good tag team.
