Its was running non stop last night during the yanks game. It made me sick to my stomach watching ND football trying to cozie up with New York's #1 team. Added insult YES will be broadcasting the ND-Purdue game too. This isn't about NYC anymore Upstate NY is Yankee die hard country too. SNY is alright but YES is were I hope SU makes some inroad with, anyone beside freaking ND.03-puke

Why would YES be running ND commercials and broadcasting the ND/Purdue game? How would YES get the right to broadcast an NBC game? Curious and interesting.

This would be a Yankees idea, would it not? This would not be anything that ND could control or implement without the Yankees being behind it, right?

YES is showing a replay of the game Sunday from 6-8 PM.

Well, I don't know about that. The Mets have their AA & AAA affiliates in Upstate NY (Binghamton & Buffalo respectively), whereas the Yankees decided to put theirs in Pennsylvania and (ugh) Jersey. As such, I think you'll find a fair amount of Mets fans Upstate.

I haven't seen the ads in question, but I don't have a problem with it on principle. After all, Notre Dame is playing in Yankee Stadium this year (vs. Army).

I dont know about the rest of Upstate NY, but Rochester metro is by far Yankee country. I never hear anyone talking about the Mets. I have never really paid attention, because i hate baseball, but I dont recall many folks talking about the Mets.

The Mets are in a similar quandary as my White Sox - once you get out of the immediate NYC metro area, it's predominantly Yankees territory in the rest of New York state and then splits between the Yankees and Red Sox as you head farther into Connecticut. Similarly, downstate Illinois is split between the Cubs and Cardinals with general ignorance of the White Sox.

I was just remembering my days in the International League. It's hard to believe that was over 30 years ago. It seems like yesterday...

Families in WNY grew up on the Yankees. They were there 1st and the rooting interest has passed down from one generation to the next. Happened with me. Didn't get the same Notre Dame influence from family members.

There used to be a fair amount of Mets fans in Western NY. In the late 90s the Mets lost WWOR as a broadcast partner and most of that area lost all their Mets games. (SportsChannel/FSN NY wasn't carried in those areas). For a while the MSG Network Mets games were all that were seen before SNY came on the scene.

Same thing happened with the Blue Jays. Toronto is the closest MLB team to Buffalo and used to have games on CBC and the CTV affiliate in T.O. (50-60 games a year). After a point, the CTV went away and CBC dropped their coverage. CBC picked up their Jays coverage again a couple years ago with 20 games, but has since dropped it.
