SI.com Article on Kenbrell Thompkins-Matt Simms
I didn't see this posted anywhere. Interesting article on SI.com about relationship between Kenbrell Thompkins and Matt Simms. Second half of the article contains the majority of Kenbrill's story. There is good info on UC recruitment and ineligibility situation.

Great article. I also do believe that Tennessee may lose some recruits because of that tactic and not releasing a player. Hopefully it comes back to bite them.

One can only hope...I have as much love for Tennessee as I do Xavier, Michigan State, Kentucky, Ville, OSU, etc...cheap move on their part with Thompkins.

Meanwhile, the ever brilliant NCAA just cleared Masoli to play this year for Ole Miss.

Wow - that was fast work for that appeal. The NCAA can move fast when it wants to. Doesn't UC have another player (Lewis?) that is still waiting on eligibility for this year?

I can only imagine this will be used against Tennessee over and over in recruiting. I know there are a fair number of UT fans around here, but to stop a guy from leaving after the coach leaves is just terrible. I would have felt the same way when BK left had UC stopped guys.

Yeah that was a little ridiculous. Mauk had to wait and wait on his appeals it seems and Masoli gets it almost immediately.

There wasn't anything to Masoli's case, which is why it was successfully appealed so quickly.

He should have been cleared from the beginning. According to the wording of the rule, he met all the requirements.

I don't think the rule Masoli used was intended to allow someone kicked out of one school for criminal activity to go to another without any repercussions. He just worked a loophole which should be amended to keep this from happening again. I don't think the NCAA wrote it with the intent to allow these shenanigans to occur.

He was kicked off the team, not out of school. They tried to spin it that since he was kicked off the team he couldn't do it, but that was not what the rule said, which is why he won the appeal.
