My Hoops OOC Preview
Last week the University of Cincinnati announced their 2010-2011 Men's basketball schedule. In this edition of View from the Shoe BearcatLair.com basketball analyst Chad Brendel previews the non-conference portion of the schedule.

If we're expecting tough games vs. Oklahoma and Miami, that's a big problem. I don't expect ANY losses against that slate, especially when it comes to making ammends for those pathetic outings vs. X and UD last year.

RE: My Hoops OOC Preview
I'd probably take a 4-1 record against the Ohio schools. Oklahoma....who knows what to expect? Not counting Toledo its the first real road trip. The rest should be nice ways to get the new lineup to gel heading into games at the Shoe against DePaul and Seton Hall to kick off conference play.

At UL, at Marquette, UCONN....nice to not face a ranked BE opponent to start conference play for a change.

RE: My Hoops OOC Preview
UC fans have waited far too long for a return to respectability.

The talent, depth and experience is there, so if the staff can't motivate the players to win every OOC game, then they don't deserve to be coaching Division I basketball.

OOC schedule: Anything less than a spotless record is a fail.

ANY losses vs. that schedule will jeapordize any chance of an NCAA bid, if the BE record is 7-9, or even 8-8.

If we have 9 losses at the end of the year and one of them is to X, we will make the tourney. If we have 10, its questionable. 11 we're probably out for sure.

Rath.

There should be significant motivation to win the "revenge" games. You and I could walk into the locker room before the Dayton and Xavier games and fire up the returning roster, so I certainly expect a paid professional coaching staff to be able to do the same.

There are 4 games prior to Dayton, more than enough time for one of our point guard candidates to come forward and take over that position.

We have seasoned inside players, and enough backups to spell them from time to time.

We have multiple 2 guards.

If you expect less than the best, that is exactly what you will get.

Agreed, it looks to be an easy road leading into conference play. It doesn't help that the teams that should've helped their nonconference resume are all likely going to decline compared to last season.

I get all that. Don't know that I would count X as an expected win even at home. I do expect a win vs Dayton....the UC lineup last year was just not quick enough for them on both ends of the court. Won't be the case this year, IMO.

13-0 OOC could happen. I just don't expect it.

I'll accept 2 losses from the OOC (X and maybe OK on the road). The only place you could find more cupcakes is on the Food Channel. I get that the BE is the best conference and we dont have to schedule a very tough OOC - but that's about as weak a schedule as you could make considering we pretty much have to play X.

RE: My Hoops OOC Preview
The Big East is good enough that you shouldn't have to play a killer non-con to have a respectable RPI. With a good team it would be better for seeding, but when you're just trying to make the tourney, pile up as many wins as possible. The Ohio schools (minus maybe Toledo) and Oklahoma should have respectable RPIs.

RE: My Hoops OOC Preview
It is necessary to have 2-3 good non conference wins to be considered for the tourney. If they beat Dayton and X they have that. If they lose both, it will be tough considering our Big East record won't be great.
