RE: Houston is...
Houston has been sinking for years. Go take a look at what used to be the Brownwood subdivision in Baytown. Fish are swimming in what used to be living rooms.

We're going to have a water problem that is going to put the energy problem to shame. And we are totally unexpecting it, fat, dumb, and happy--for now.

I know that Jersey Village stopped drawing from underground wells a few years back. So, hopefully that will eventually stop the sinking out here.

What I don't understand is how you can draw a reasonable map of the county from "more than two dozen" data points? I mean, you say something like that and it sounds like they might have 30 points to work with....for the county.

I've heard that Houston supposedly as enough surface water resources to last until 2040, but after that I guess you start have to use the Brazos.

Worked on a master plan for Houston water back in the mid-1980s. At that time, assuming the rights issues could be handled, Toledo Bend was actually a more cost-effective source than the Brazos. Distance issues were more than offset by the difference in treatability of the water.

Of course, nothing of what we proposed has been done.

RE: Houston is...
Why can't Houston build a large reservoir on the east side of town to counter the large one near Bear Creek? Or does it already have one to begin with? At least we know we aren't likely going to face the same drought conditions that many areas routinely get.

I know my city has had to build new canals and widen existing ones in a federal mandate to increase the size of its use of ground water. I believe the deadline to do so is 2020? I can't imagine we're the only city doing that - it's not like Missouri City is the most progressive thinking suburb in this area.
