RE: Libyan Action
I see a great difference in that the Taliban ruled Afghanistan and protected Al-Qaeda. When they refused to oust Al-Qaeda and chose to protect Al-Qaeda, we had good reason to kick butt, take name and get the T-Shirt (I disagreed with sticking around, though). As for Saddam Hussein, he was violating the U.N. imposed No-Fly zone and locking on coalition aircraft, an overt act of war, sufficient reason to oust him (again, I wouldn't stay, if I was the dude in charge).
With Libya, we had actually made progress from the antagonist they were in the 1980's and they were now trading and becoming peaceful -I wouldn't call them friendly, but peaceful - with the west, looking for more trade. The rebels are made up of factions that include Al-Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood, both extreme anti-American groups, as well as other factions that are less friendly with the U.S. than Qaddafi. Please keep in mind, I have no love for Qaddafi and would like him to go, but not to have him replaced with people who hate us even more than he does. I do believe there are friendly to America people in Libya, but they are not likely to rule when the dust settles.
Further, Libya made no aggressive moves against the U.S., or its allies, which is a requirement for the president to take military action against them. Add to that, Obama has not approached Congress, who holds the only authority to decelare war. He has not made financial provision to cover the expenses he is incurring when we cannot afford what we have already committed to.
Don't be deceived by the low figures presented as a cost of the action to date. They are presenting bare bones figures or outright lies. Simply placing the personnel and equipment that is within the theater of operations costs far more than they have reported. If you include all costs for Afghan and Iraq as they did with Bush, then do the same with Obama. We are being lied to by this administration on the grandest of scales.
Finally, if we are shifting our foreign policy to address human rights issues throughout the world, then Somalia should be number 1 on the list. Thay have had no stable government and they are causing real damage to the U.S. and its allies
