To think that in a discussion, Genshaft isn't trying to make Houston look better than UCF is just as delusional as assuming that USF can dictate who is invited. I do think though that it is quite probable that Genshaft started pimping Houston over UCF as soon as TCU was added. Do I think it will be enough to keep UCF out, no. If the Big East presidents are swayed that easily, then they have bigger issues.
But I do strongly believe that Genshaft is pushing for Houston because pushing against UCF could potentially cause political backlash in the state of Florida. Hopefully we are all right and it won't have much weight. I don't mind Houston getting in over UCF as long as they are more qualified and the presidents chose them as the more qualified candidate and not because they have buddies at a few member schools, some arguably with a personal agenda.
And while I won't argue with any of the above, I think that some posters are missing the long-range view.
Since August, we basically have known the 4 candidates to get either to 9, 10, or 12 were (alpha) - Central Florida, Houston, TCU, and Villanova.
Two offers went out - TCU accepted, Nova is still deciding.
If Nova declines, either the league stays at 9/17 or perhaps adds one more to go 10/18.
We don't even know if Nova declines that there will definitely be another invite. But if there is, has it occurred to anyone that perhaps the BE might choose UH over UCF precisely because TCU won't have voting privileges yet to try and persuade anyone against Houston - to prevent them from doing to the Cougars what you believe Genshaft is doing to the Knights?
And if UH subsequently does get in under this scenario, won't all the arguments you think are currently being used by Genshaft to block UCF now be moot considering the fact that it could be argued UH is as much competition for TCU as UCF is for USF?
Relax. The road to expansion is fluid with many potholes and roadblocks along the way. If it's meant to be, it will be.
