RE: Congratulations Dan Hoard
congratulations, Dan but please don't let the awful play and ownership of the Bengals depress you. We still love hearing you doing the UC games and hopes that continues for years to come.

RE: Congratulations Dan Hoard
Funny I remember reading article about hoard and his desire for MLB job. Still surprised reds didn't grab him. And I thought it would suck not having him do uc games if he left for some MLB team one day. Glad for him with this news and glad for us he will still be uc guy.

Osu can have keels. Not saying keels wasn't good....obviously is or he wouldn't be at osu....and I enjoyed listening to him here. But hoard is better. Guy is a huge asset to uc.

Congrats to Dan! I think he will be excellent in the role.

Johansen is a very quality guy though - I hope he transitions to a good gig.

I think we are all fond of Dan, he is truly great at what he does and a very nice guy!

He also is one of the hardest working guys, talk about a full plate. Broadcasting baseball, uc football and basketball and now the Bengals! There is no sport this guy couldnt broadcast!

RE: Congratulations Dan Hoard
Pshft...Give Hoard a year. He'll be begging for a trade or threatening to retire from broadcasting forever. He'll put his house on the market. We'll have to face the scary possibility of his little brother being the starting broadcaster and even though at one time we all loved Dan Hoard, he'll tear the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his knee during the play offs, need surgery, will come back and be less than the fantastic broadcaster that he once was, he'll grow a red beard... and we'll hate him for it.

Just kidding - CONGRATS DAN!

Dan Hoard will still do UC games
4:42 pm, May 4, 2011 by nhurm

If you haven’t heard already, The Enquirer’s Joe Reedy is reporting that Dan Hoard will become the new radio play-by-play voice of the Bengals this fall.

The good news for UC fans is that Hoard will also continue to do both UC basketball and football games.

Hoard has become a fan favorite since he became UC’s radio voice in 2000. As broadcasters go, he’s as professional and well-prepared as any that I have encountered over the years.

He does his homework, asks good questions and obviously loves what he does. He’s also a good companion on the road, having steered me to Dinosaur Barb-B-Que in Syracuse, home of the best ribs this side of Montgomery Inn.

Why did Bengals choose Hoard?
Teams says move offers 'a lot more flexibility'

“It’s funny how things work out,” Dan Hoard says. “This solves the family issues we discussed. Amazing.

Why did the Bengals dump play-by-play announcer Brad Johansen after 11 years in favor of Dan Hoard?

Because of the “two really good options,” the former Fox 19 sports director working as a free-lancer offered “a lot more flexibility for our website and social media” than the Johansen, who has a full-time job as Channel 12 sports director, explains Vince Cicero, Bengals corporate sales, marketing and broadcasting director.

Dan Hoard will do fine. The most crucial factor was keeping Dave Lapham. Some of you might loathe Lap’s exuberance, but he’s an excellent analyst. Often he predicts the penalty before the ref’s flag hits the turf. He’s as Cincinnati as the chicken dance and chili. Lap is the Bengals’ Joe Nuxhall.

That’s why Lap this fall – if there is a NFL season – will be working with his sixth play-by-play guy in 26 years when the Bengals take over their radio production (like the Reds).

Although the club has not announced affiliates, expect the games to stay on Clear Channel’s WLW-AM (700), WCKY-AM (1530) and WEBN-FM (102.7).

“Basically I’ll be doing the same thing for the Bengals that I did for Clear Channel,” said Lapham, whose Clear Channel sales job ended when the NFL stopped playing.

Lapham greeted the news Wednesday about getting a new radio booth roommate with mixed emotions. He had become close with Johansen.

“It’s a good day for one, and a bad day for the other,” Lap said. “I’ve never worked with Dan, but I know he’s a hard worker and always well prepared. I like and respect the guy a lot.”

An important part of Lapham’s new Bengals role will be continuing his Big 12 football TV games on Saturday, then hustling to the Bengals site. Hoard also wants to keep doing University of Cincinnati football and basketball games for Clear Channel this fall, as he has since 2000.

Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons and Tama Bay Buccaneers announcers “do the college/NFL combo, so that’s the plan. I will have to miss the occasional UC game,” Hoard said.

Cicero says its OK for the both guys to do both gigs on Saturdays.

Hoard quit Channel 19 in 2006 and moved to Boston to be with his wife, former Channel 12 reporter Peg Rusconi, and do play-by-play for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox, in a quest to become a Major League Baseball announcer.

His dreams jumped leagues Wednesday.

Hoard says he’ll quit the PawSox at the end of the season, and his wife will leave Boston CBS affiliate WBZ-TV. They will move back here, giving him more time at home with their son, Adam, who turned 5 the day of the Bengals’ announcement.

Hoard told me in March, as he was switching from UC basketball to minor-league baseball, that being on the road so much “gets a little more difficult each year.”

Now when the Bengals or Bearcats play at home, Hoard won’t be commuting from Boston to the games.

“It’s funny how things work out,” Hoard says. “This solves the family issues we discussed. Amazing.”

RE: Congratulations Dan Hoard
Glad to see him get this job. Anything that allows him to continue doing UC football and basketball is good in my eyes. While I would have loved to have seen him get a MLB gig since that was a dream of his, I am kind of glad he didn't so he can continue to do UC games. Good PBP guys don't come along very often and I think we have one of the best.

In theory we should be able to keep him for UC, but I wonder about a Bengals Home-UC road week (or vice versa). A LOT of traveling headaches ahead for Dan.

Nonetheless, congrats Dan 04-bow

What college does Lapham announce for? Or is it just one of those college game day deals?

Dan Hoard is also a class act to go along with great broadcasting skills. He shows a lot of enthusiasm during the games that he calls and just hope the Bengals don't break his spirit haha. Glad to hear Dan and his family are moving back to Cincy. I think it will be a great move for his family.

RE: Congratulations Dan Hoard
I'll echo the sentiments that Dan is absolutely one of the best play by play guys out there. We are lucky to have him. I'm surprised someone like ESPN hasn't tried to scoop him up. He is incredibly good.

He also has a passion for UC, which I really enjoy.
