RE: Reds, Saturday
1. Once again, the minor leagues is much different than major leagues, especially when it comes to closing out a game.
2. Maybe Masset turns it around, but maybe not. He's shown an ability to be a quality setup man from time to time, but he's inconsistent. Rhodes was the most dependable RP regardless of the situation. His exit remains a hole unfilled, which is why you can't afford to lose another veteran like Cordero.
3. The Beltran scenario is pointless to talk about because it isn't realistic right now. You don't have to trade Cordero away to make that happen in your fantasy world either. The Reds will add money to the payroll if they're in the hunt come July and there is a deal available to them that makes sense.
4. Cordero isn't overrated, he just makes more money than he's worth. Alot of players do. That doesn't change the fact that he's a key piece to the puzzle if the Cincinnati Reds' hope to repeat as NL Central champions. If he doesn't have a good year, they pay him $1 million to go away in the offseason and they have time to adjust their bullpen accordingly. Doing it mid-season when you're targeting the playoffs doesn't make much sense.
