Well I guess if our baseball program can start signing the top incoming fresman every year and bring in a couple of the top 5 JUCO we can be like UK basketball. I do think the southern schools may have something to say about that but I could be wrong. 04-cheers

The good thing is that we are competing for the most part with northern teams in our conference.

I will make up for it with the UConn series, will be in the press box for every inning.

We've been in Marge Schott Stadium now a number of years. Are we significantly better in recruiting and in on-field performance, as was predicted by Cleary when UC's excellent baseball facilities were put into place.

I posted this before but the question is did Otterbein pitch their best pitcher and we pitched our sixth best picture. That drove me crazy when I played but that made a big difference. We had fewer schollies than UC has now but still could not stand it when we lost to teams like this. Otterbein may have a very good pitcher that went against a pitcher from UC who will never pitch in the important conference games. Hope this helps...

Our guys played sloppy that game. I felt as though despite the coaching staff warning against it prior to the game, they came in feeling like they could just go through the motions and get a win. Talking to a couple players after the game they were not happy about playing Otterbein. They just couldn't get up for that game.

Otterbein started a kid that had a good ERA but only had pitched in 11 innings for the year at that point ( he went 5) then brought in a kid that looked like he was a starting pitcher all year with an ERA over 5 and then a closer who had an ERA less than 2. He pitched 2 innings and gave up 2 runs so I don't think it was a hot or one time stud pitcher that the D-3 school thru at them. UC that day pitched their normal week day guys( Isler started and got the loss). I believe he has appeared in a couple of weekend games. I hope that helps.

Yup and you could tell it was exact opposite for Otterbein. They were excited to play in a D1 park. Plus win got their coach his 300th win and their starting pitcher was a Xavier transfer probably jacked up to play big brother

Tough tough loss for Cats tonight. But i think you might need a major league team to beat Barnes

They did what they needed to against Barnes, they got a couple of hits and got him out of the game relatively early. They had some opportunities to put runs on the board, but it usually took them 2 outs to get guys into scoring position and they just couldn't convert.

That Barnes kid is just amazing. I was watching the scout's radar guns from the press box and he was consistently throwing his fast ball around 94-95 mph, and then following that up with curve balls and change ups around 80 mph.

Their guy they have going tomorrow is strong too. His ERA is at 2.55, so scoring will again be at a premium. Good news for the Cats is that since Gentile went tonight and lasted 7.2 innings they have Jensen available from the pen if they need him. Johnson is getting the start tomorrow.

Chances improved for making the BE tournament too with USF losing to Pitt.

Agree it looks good for making the tourney. However, I don't think I would want to finish 8th and have to play UCONN again. That team is good.

A win this weekend would definitely help seeding. A first round match up with UConn would likely mean a quick trip to the the losers bracket. Louisville sweeping Notre Dame this weekend and some more losses by SHU and WVU would help out.

Yep, there is the other key. You have to be ready mentally each and every game especially with those you think you should beat easily. Being young kids makes it even more of a challenge as well...
