B you raise a valid point about AK having no shot at UC's job. But, his situation was really no-lose (and I said that when he was promoted). Choice of either being out on the street now, or getting a free audition as a HC (at worst being out on the street when the season's over). AK made the most of it.

Interestingly, despite the condition of UC's program once Mick arrived, relative to that of Ole Miss, UC has reached the tourney before Ole Miss. I'd say UC made the right choice.

Never anything specific.

sub just made a very general statement. That may be good enough for some people (followers) but I might want to check his facts. Is that a bad thing?

Dunno. Think of all the great PR UC missed out on in that 2 year court debacle involving booze fueled racial slurs, assault, and failure to perform in the bedroom. 03-wink

There have been plenty of reports on here about the final coach's show where Kennedy joked off air about how he told those kids not to go to class, thinking that grades would not be reported until after the season was over.

Bj, I'm not here claiming UC made a mistake by not keeping AK. I didn't even bring his name into this.

this is a story about the 09-10 basketball team. but some people here think every story needs a villain and I don't thin it should be AK.

Hire Andy clap clap clap clap clap Hire Andy clap clap clap clap clap!

Still lived in Cincy and went to most of the games back then...seemed like that was the main chant during the NIT run before the suspensions.

Glad that messy part of our history is fading away and that Mick has righted the ship! 04-cheers

While I supported Cronin's hire, didn't like the way Kennedy handled his final year here, and had serious doubts about Cronin's performance after he got the job, I think things have come together rather nicely. I'm proud of Cronin, the basketball team, and UC. What a nice change. This makes me very happy.

Winning on the court and great academic performance off the court: That's my definition of an outstanding coach, and that's what I yearned for when the media pummelled UC for a variety of things.

I hope the media now provides positive attention to the same extent they drilled us with negative attention all those years.

Lord knows I don't want to revert back to old arguments about Kennedy.

For all I'm concerned, Kennedy should have kissed Zimpher's butt for giving him the opportunity to coach a Division 1 team in the Big East. Remember, he tried to get head coaching jobs and couldn't get hired at the likes of what - Louisiana Monroe? Without that final year at UC, he's not coaching at Ole Miss.

We now have the benefit of hindsight - Kennedy hasn't been to the tournament, and has shown his true character by trying to smear a lowly restaurant worker in order to save his sorry a$$.

I'm so glad UC administration made the right decisions. Things are looking pretty good for us right now.

Good point. I have not heard any grad rate or arrest slams in a long while.

Maybe Koch can do a follow up on the perfect record for seniors getting their degrees while completing their eligibility and the number of players that actually graduated a quarter early in the last 5 years.

It was something Mick said at the podium the day he took the job - everyone was going to get their degree while they were on the roster.

Now, I'm not saying thats not true, I have no idea. but I have a hard time wrapping my mind around a coach telling his kids not to go to class. Who does that?

I've also read that the coaches were stripped of any academic responsibilities and it was the Adm. that dropped the ball.

so there's plenty of he say she say but the fact is they did pretty good on the court under the circumstances.

I was in favor of giving the job to AK ... until the news about the ineligible players hit. If he'd been hired, he would've had to be un-hired after that stunt.

One justification for spending university resources on big time athletics is that it enhances the overall visibility and brand of the institution. This rationale is turned on its head when the athletic programs garner NEGATIVE publicity, whether for academics or for off court incidents.

Mick really does deserve A LOT of credit for his work in this area.

Agreed. And it's a shame with Andy, but you reap what you sow.
