Holy Grail closes in Corryville
The ownership group behind the Holy Grail restaurant and bar has closed the Corryville location. “Having a nice sports bar in a college market is very trying," said co-owner Jim Moehring, who says that they might open a new location somewhere else.

The article said it wasn't an issue of not being financially viable, but rather not fitting the image of what they want the Holy Grail brand to represent... So why not rebrand it as something else without shutting it down? I haven't seen many bars close down and reopen successfully in that area of Clifton.

I was thinking of that place the other day.when it opened in 1997 and brewed oldenberg beer there, i absolutely loved the place and loved oldenberg beer. Wish the beer was still around. From what i understand oldenberg even ran a beer camp, not sure why they went out of business (oldenberg) that is.

Oldenberg never knew what they wanted to do when they grew up so they were constantly chasing their tail and reinventing the wheel every year. Not very well run, IMO.

Grail is not a big loss outside of some convenience on game day. Below average bar food and it had turned into just another B-Dubs Budweiser joint.

They never brewed there, they had the shiny tanks but it was cheaper to bring the barrels over from Kentucky. It was a dump.

The Holy Grail Tavern & Grille frequently has been packed - including on Opening Day - since it opened in March.

Downtown business has been good for the Holy Grail Tavern & Grille – so good that the first Banks tenant is looking to expand even before its neighbors have arrived.

“It has been fantastic,” said Holy Grail co-owner Jim Moehring. “We’ve been very well embraced by the community.”

The restaurant is in negotiations to add about 500 to 750 square feet to its 6,000-square-foot space, Moehring said, a move that would allow it to better serve its patio along Freedom Way and add restrooms and storage space.

If negotiations are successful, the plan is to complete Holy Grail’s expansion while the weather is still warm, Moerhing said.

The sports bar became the first retail tenant at the Banks when it opened its three garage door windows on St. Patrick’s Day and served up a glass of Guinness.

Since then, Holy Grail frequently has been packed, especially when the Reds play across the street at Great American Ball Park.

Residents have begun moving into the development’s apartments, but Holy Grail remains the sole retail tenant at the Banks. Restaurants such as Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill, Johnny Rockets and Huey’s 24/7 Diner are expected to open in the coming months.

And later this fall, the two-story Moerlein Lager House is expected to open just south of The Banks on Joe Nuxhall Way at the incoming Cincinnati Riverfront Park.
