‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage dies
This was on the Reds blog, but I thought it deserved a post of its own:

‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage dies
1:22 pm, May 20, 2011 by nhurm

According to TMZ.com, Randall Poffo, better known as wresting great Macho Man Randy Savage, has died.

According to the site, Randy’s brother, Lanny, said he suffered a heart attack while he was driving around 9:25 this morning and lost control of his vehicle.

He veered across a concrete median, through oncoming traffic and “collided head-on with a tree.”

Savage was transported to Largo Medical center, where he died from his injuries, according to the report.

Savage, who grew up near Tampa, was a minor league baseball outfielder in the Cincinnati Reds farm system in his earlier years.

He played one season as a 21-year-old outfielder for Class-A Tampa in 1974. He hit .232 in 461 at-bats, with 19 doubles, nine home runs and 66 RBI. He also played first base and caught one game. (Complete stats) http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors...ffo-001ran

In 1989, Savage showed up in the Reds radio booth with his ring outfit on. While everyone else, including Marty Brennaman was fired up for the visit, owner Marge Schott did not approve.

Savage also played minor league ball for St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox.

Savage held twenty championships during his professional wrestling career, which started during the baseball offseason in 1973. He was 58 years old.

Greatest dude ever. My old man was a power lifter and got to know him. Met him when he was in town back in 85' or 86. Acted the same in person.

I still yell "Art Thou Bored!?" ala Macho Man to my infielders when they are back on their heels during a long inning.

They know exactly what I mean but have no friggin' idea where it comes from.

Over one-quarter of the performers who took part in 1991's Wrestlemania VII have died, a wrestling website noted in the wake of the death of "Macho Man" Randy Savage.

The Wrestling Observer newsletter discovered that 14 of the 51 performers at the event have died in the past 20 years, with many of the deaths attributed to drug use

As wrestlinginc.com points out, none of the 44 starters from the Super Bowl played in 1991 have passed away and only two of 44 boxers who held a championship belt that year are gone.

Sad to hear about the Macho Man. Those guys from the 80's were pure entertainment.
I think Ravishing Rick Rude died also.
