Cincinnati Tailgate and Visitor's Guide '11
Hey Bearcats...just updated the guide for 2011.

If you know of any new motels or restaurants near campus or downtown let me know.

also, what is the deal with the bars along 7th downtown...they all seem closed. Should I recommend this area?

Thanks
Mark

Holy Grail just closed, so that info should probably be updated.

Will there still be tailgating in the lot between Calhoun/McMillan? If not, might be nice to put in a blurb mentioning all the new development going in there in the next few years.

FWIW, I was told that the football office sent someone down to Ole Miss on a scouting mission last season to see how they do tailgating on the Lawn in order to get some ideas on how to enhance the experience here. I think they're planning to sell off plots in a tailgating area this upcoming season where you can set up a tent and such and party before the game, leave all your stuff there where it will be kept secure while you go to the game, then come back afterward to hopefully celebrate a victory. Not sure how this will work in October and November, when we have no home games at Nippert.

One of the new areas that is in the process of opening up now is called The Banks. It's located downtown near the river and between Paul Brown Stadium and Great American Ballpark. The newest Holy Grail is already open there and other restaurant/bars, like Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill, are scheduled to open "throughout 2011". Also scheduled to open sometime "late fall" in that same area is the Christian Moerlein Lager House.

Since there are two games at Paul Brown Stadium, I think this would be great information to add.

Thanks for the updates...This week in the evening I'll build a special Paul Brown section. It sounds like your school is committed to putting a couple games a year there.

Can you guys give me some help on some restaurants near the stadium? Also, I figure a lot of you are Bengals fans...so how easy is tailgating there?

Any links for restaurants or great nonofficial parking lots would be great. Thanks

The Banks development downtown will be a new pre-game destination for many fans before Bengals/UC games at Paul Brown Stadium. The development will literally connect the open space between PBS and Great American Ballpark that has traditionally been parking space (since Riverfront Stadium was demolished). I'm not sure how that development will impact the parking situation around Paul Brown Stadium, but I can say one of the best spots for tailgating near PBS is Longworth Hall. It's a HUGE lot and is typically pretty crazy on gamedays. I can't remember what it costs to park there so maybe someone else can chime in. There are also several other cash lots around the stadium and I've never had a problem parking for a Bengals game.

That's great news if true. Plots of land with tents is the way they tailgated in Oklahoma when we played there a few years ago. According to the Sooner fans, they open up the lawn on Friday afternoon after classes get out, and people pitch their tents for the game the next day. It was a lot of fun and was a great alternative for campuses that don't have huge lots.

It's definitely true. Heard it from the HC.
