COLUMBUS, Ohio — A change proposed for the two-year state budget would allow Ohioans to buy boozier beer, up to 18 percent alcohol.

The current limit is 12 percent.

State Senate Majority Leader Jimmy Stewart tells The Columbus Dispatch that some of the state's smaller breweries would be very excited about making some limited-time products with higher alcohol content.

The newspaper reports Stewart offered the amendment after talking to the owners of a brew pub in his southeast Ohio district.

The beer proposal is among a long list of budget changes unveiled Tuesday in the Republican-led Senate.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services cautions that underage drinkers — who are typically binge drinkers — get in trouble faster when alcohol contents are higher.

true, but that takes all the fun out of binge drinking. after one or two beers, the kids are wasted and passed out or puking. plus, i doubt the kids would actually be able to handle the taste
