I couldn't agree more, and this applies to not only sci-fi but just your typicaly action-adventures as well. Way overblown CGI and explosions. It's what made movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark so good. Great story, great atmosphere, special effects only where needed (granted, this was the age before they had all the computer technology, but modern Hollywood could learn from those days).
Amen, brother... 03-banghead

Blame Independence Day.

Just finished re-watching Arnold's Total Recall and the new one with Collin Farrell. I swear in both you can find enough evidence to support which ever side you come down on in regards to the Recall Memory Trip versus Real Life. I think the separation was easier to digest in the first one because of the whole Mars angle. Then again, the "real world" of the newer one made the trip even more confusing as the settings were the same.

Quote:Sixth Sense = great
Unbreakable = meh
Signs = very good
The Happening = awful

Really? Unbreakable is only "meh"? To me, I think you have to put Unbreakable as one of his better movies.... Signs.. I didn't enjoy as much, but it's mostly I guess just from the build he put in on the movie didn't work for me as well as it did for others.

And I will say "HELL NO" to Avatar... I'm sorry but that movie was just WAY too preachy for my taste. I've tried to watch it a few times.. and NO, nO, nO.

I'll add one I LOVE that most others probably hate: "Titan A.E.". To me, it was fantastic storytelling all the way through (yes, it had some plot holes in the story, but nothing that I couldn't look past.)

And one that probably very few people have watched: "Cypher" with Jeremy Northam and Lucy Liu. The twist I should have seen coming a MILE away.. but it shocked the hell out of me when it hit. One of my all-time favorite sci-fi sleeper hits.
