Dumervil Named National Player of the Week

Walter Camp Foundation Names him Player of the Week

Sept. 6, 2005

New Haven, Ct. - University of Louisville defensive end Elvis Dumervil was named the Walter Camp Foundation National Player of the Week for his performance against Kentucky last Sunday.

Dumervil set a BIG EAST record and school record for sacks (6) leading Louisville to a 31-24 win at Kentucky. Dumervil posted a career-best 12 tackles versus the Wildcats, including seven for losses. Five of his career-best six sacks came in the first half. Dumervil also forced a pair of fumbles and had a fumble recovery.

Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp - a former Yale University athlete and football coach - is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation - a New Haven-based all-volunteer group - was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
