OK. here is the scenario:

for the sake of argument: let's say your NBE team is 6-5 heading into the last game of the season. You need a win to eek out a bowl appearance. Your team is basically having a mediocre season - - - there's always next year. Your last game is against an 11-0 NBE team that has a shot to represent the league in the National Title game, if they only beat you. But lose to you, of course, then the NBE loses its chance at a National Title.

Would it be possible for you to actually cheer for another team, for the good of the league?

What if your team was 3-8 going into the game instead of 6-5?

No. I care about the Big East, but WVU trumps all.

I could think of very few things more fun than ruining Pitt's undefeated season regardless of our record. :)

I would always root for UofL, but if they lost I would console myself with the fact that we lost to a team in the title game.

crazed, you are crazy tonight.

A true fan wants the victory. If my team is 1-10, I want that victory even more. Now, for the neutral conference fans, they want the team to win who will make the conference look best, but the true fan roots for his/her team regardless.

HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION: The best thing that could happen for the BIGEAST this year is for LOUISVILLE AND PITT to go into their game as undefeated teams. Although this might be best for the conference and its future, would you, as a WV fan, hope for this to happen?

Probably not.

Feel free to root against the Cards if your team is in that situation. Because we aren't going to pull any punches if a win is on the line. :D

Yeah, I would want for UC to win over a strong team. If they won, we'd be celebrating that victory for quite a long time. If they lost, I wouldn't feel so bad because the obviously better team won.

My rooting for my team probably won't matter much in the big picture.

I understand the point of your question, but there is no way I put the conference first.

1. School
2. Conference
3. World peace

In that order.

D@mn! First Old Yeller and now this! So good I logged on just to say

"Now that's funny!"

And yes, wanting the best for the conference never comes at the expense of your own program.

i agree, I would always root for WVU.

But, what would a National Title do for the NBE, and, by extension, to the long-term well-being of WVU's (or any other) program in the NBE? Would it do more long-term good than one victory that didn't mean a whole lot in the big picture?
