Don't feel sorry for us. We got left in C-USA when the Big East most recently expanded, but there will be more changes to come in the NCAA. Being in a BCS gives you a financial advantage, but it isn't the end all. Just ask Vanderbilt, Baylor, Mississippi, and some others. I think the Tigers are going to be OK in the long run. This thing is far from over.

[QUOTE] Reading this thread may force me to re-evaluate my feelings toward Cincy and Louisville.

Hey TRA,

Don't be getting all chummy and stuff. I just want to see Memphis in the Big East so we can have an easy win every year.

1) They are probably the fourth horse in a race where the first 3 get a Big East invite - I don't believe they were the 4th horse, they were shot down before UCF and ECU were considered.

2) Ul drops them off their schedule because they are too good - UofL did not want to play them b/c the Cards beleive that they are better than Memphis and most all other C-USA teams.

3) Ole Miss wants to drop them because they are too good - Ole Miss wants to drop them b/c Ole Miss wants to schedule another home game to increase revenues

4) Their basketball team will be the best it has been in years and they won't have that much opportunity to show it thanks to a weak conference - If their basketball team will be the best in years, they should have no trouble making the NCAAs and getting a high seed (1 - 4), that should be an advantage for them.

5) Their home town bowl lies to them and apparently wants to backstab them - Yikes, I guess there are more Vol fans in Memphis than I thought since most Tiger fans have lead me to believe that where Memphis goes, so does the Liberty...but that is not the case. When was the last time Memphis played in the "Liberty Bowl" game.

6) They are probably in the best spot ever to win a C-USA football championship and won't have a chance to play in their home town bowl - No way Memphis wins the C-USA football championship, and also the Liberty Bowl does not have to pick the C-USA champion, but can pick any team from the C-USA Top 4 (for TV and fan support reasons).

Can I call you now for my free reading?

Which is why Louisville initially agreed to deals with Marshall and UCF.

Even UL fans admit that they won't play us because their schedule's already too tough, Obtusey McObtusepants.

And the fact that we've beaten them for two years in a row and stand at least an even chance of making it three in a row has NOTHING to do with it!

If Cincy was in Louisville's place I don't think you would feel quite the same. I'm just telling what Jesus loves...the truth. I was very happy to see us win by any means we could. I wanted Memphis to go on and do well in their tournament too cause I was also a fan of what was then our conference. But if you think as a Louisville fan I was going to be heart broken because the opposite teams player missed free throws which resulted in our winning

You might be right. I don't know exactly how I would feel since UC wasn't in the game. You have every right to be happy that your team moved on, and survived with a win. However, that wouldn't be one of those wins where I'd be jumping up and down in celebration. Granted, it gave you the conference championship, which is a nice accomplishment. All I'm saying, is there are ways you want to win, and ways that you win, that leave you a little less satisfied. If your performance isn't up to snuff, but you escape with a win, you might not be as happy as, say, if you play really well against a team ranked ahead of you in a big game, and hit a shot at the buzzer to win. That's something to celebrate. An 18 or 19 year old kid missing free throws while on the line all by himself that would have sent his team into the NCAA tournament. Sure, you're happy you got the W, but I doubt I'd be jumping through hoops, either. You might even feel a little sorry for the kid.
Please kid. We missed 3 free-throws in the final minute of that game that no one remembers because D-Wash was the goat. Do you think it would have made me feel better had we lost thinking that if we had hit those free throws D-Wash wouldn't have been in the position to get fouled on that shot? Hell no. Free throws are as much a part of the game as dribbling and three-pointers. Kid missed, we won. Truth be told I did back flips up the stairs from my basement while D-Wash was writhing in agony on the Forum floor. I couldn’t have scripted a better end to the Memphis series.

Final Four run here we come.

You know if he hadn't made that cocky smile and nod to the Memphis bench, like he was saying it was in the bag, I might feel sorry for him. But when you act like that you had best make your shots. He didn't and I don't feel bad in the least that I pointed and laugh. Heck even my fat butt can sink free throws.

Why are you calling me a kid? Do you know how old I am? Is that some childish way of insulting me after I made some valid points? No need to get hostile. I told you to feel how you want to feel. That's just not how I would react to that situation. I didn't say free throws aren't a part of basketball. I'd have to be an idiot to think that. But when the other team misses free throws, instead of your team taking the game from them, I don't get the same enjoyment out of a victory. It's not to say I'm not happy with th win, bu I'm not ecstatic the way we won. You're probably one of those jerks that cheers when a tennis player double faults. Hey, to each his own. Just not my style. If you want to go around parading other's failures, be my guest. I don't have time for that nonsense.

I don't watch tennis.

‘Kid’ wasn't meant to be an insult; I apologize if I insulted you. You seemed to be asking for justification of our jubilation over our conference championship and I gave it to you.

I don't hold any animosity towards South Florida. They haven't done anything malicious by accepting an invitation to the Big East.

I may be in the minority, but I'll actually be disappointed to see them go. Even though their attendance has always been horrible, the games between the Tigers and Bulls have usually been pretty entertaining. The football series has been especially competitive.

And I'll never forget old Seth Greenberg. :D
He used to get so mad at Calipari, his face would turn bright purple. I actually thought he might fart and pass out on the floor during one of our games.

im not sure if you are refering to basketball with the horrible attendance remark but football has done fairly well except for the last two games this past year.
The last time we played Memphis at home(before last year) we had 30,000+. We also drew well for Louisville,TCU and Army.
We just dont have a history that will have fans show up for losing seasons.

Only the "land grant" schools continue to draw when a program falls on hard times. The rest of us have a 10-20K base and the bandwagon jumpers are just around for the good times.
