Memphis will not be invited to the Big East as long as RC Johnson is the AD...however, if he quits or is fired, then we have a different ball game...

I hope you are right......I know that if not ND or Penn State, Memphis then brings the next biggest market and would add the most to the television contract for football - basketball is also not too shabby.....I would say UCF in Orlando as market size, but am not sure how much they carry that market......I do know that Memphis in a BCS league would recruit substantially better in football as well.....the Memphis and Mid-South (northern MS, eastern AR, and western TN) areas are rich with football recruits.....

SEC schools travel and the Liberty Bowl knows they could get a crowd from Notre Dame, West Virginia and Louisville.

Yes they can get a crowd from Hattiesburg, BUT they would have trouble with Tulsa, Houston, Tulane, Rice, Southern Methodist, UCF, UAB ect ect.  That is what the Liberty Bowl is afraid of.

As far as traveling to Hattiesburg, that is not the easiest place to go plus it Hattisburg for Godsakes.  That place is a hellhole.
first - won't happen - have to keep stressing that....

second - if you could get a crowd from ND, UL, or WV, then you also get a huge crowd from Memphis, a crowd from USM, and most likely a crowd from UTEP/ECU......if the LB is afraid of Tulsa or Rice or UAB crowd, they are just as likely not enthralled with the prospect of a Rugers, USF, Syracuse crowd.........
Two arguements could go against your Rutgers crowd idea. One which I also dispute is who knows how they travel anyway? Two and this where I come from is my how on earth do we get 31K a game when we suck if we don't have the underlying support argument? The NIT argument. etc. Believe me we'll travel and after the first game or two we go to should we get there this year like I believe we will, bowl execs will be more than happy to host Rutgers.

and who is to say that if SMU started winning again that they couldn't get a good fan base to travel to a bowl? Basically, I think the numbers are too close to justify replacing CUSA with BE......I could maybe see CUSA vs. BE/SEC/ACC, but I just don't ever see the possbility or probability of CUSA not being one side of the LB equation.....

It's no secret that RC plans to retire once his current contract expires...

Its the glass in the press box reflecting the Louisville sea of humanity. If you have any further questions ask the Liberty bowl, the picture is posted on their site.
This is a crock even by your standards. "Sure", UL brought 50,000 fans with them to the LB. Do you really think that picture reflects the attendance by UL? I will say UL had and always has, great attendance at the LB, but 20-30k would be tops. Also, I believe those skyboxes have darkened glass and would not reflect as shown. Watching the game on TV that night, did not see a sea of red. Also, since Boise has orange in their colors, it would be hard to determine which was orange or red in that photo.

To insinuate one Memphis fan at the game speaks for itself!
I don't know dude, they brought a lot of fans this time for sure......a lot......but, Boise also brought a decent number......I would have to say the Cards brought at the very least 40K to Memphis this time.....
that would mean only about 18k were local along with Boise, I really doubt that. Also, I may well be wrong, but I don't think any school has ever brought 40,000 to any bowl game. If so, I'd think it could only be the Rose Bowl. Remember, even if UL supporters, if the tickets were bought locally, then they aren't counted toward UL "brought" fans. I certainly agree UL has great fan travel and do not mean to denegrate that fact.

-- West Virginia brought over 40,000 to the Tire bowl against UVA in 2003.....The Tire bowl attendance was over 70,000, the largest non BCS bowl attendnace for that yr and a big reason why that bowl is still affliated with the BE

That picture is actually 15,000 Ul fans, 2500 Boise fans, 2,000 Memphis fans ( to cheer against UL), and 35,000 Rutgers fans checking out their new conference opponents.

The sad, overlooked thing about that picture is that it represented the only time the Liberty Bowl was just about at 100% attendance capacity in 2004...

How can we tell?

Well, you can hear the crowd yelling, "Go yous guys!" instead of the standards hillbilly holler from the Cardinal fans. 03-wink

You don't know what the Snit your talking about, Louisville vs Memphis had a similar crowd for one, and UL didn't bring 40K to that game. Memphis vs USM had around 50K. You can talk your stupid crapola about ECU, but don't start that snit with Memphis dude, we'll expose you for the moron you are. Sorry to all BE fans, this is not the proper forum for this and I know it and it ends here. 04-cheers

1. You're wrong.

2. What's your point, bozo?

Memphis led C-USA in attendance the past two seasons and had a near capacity crowd against UL on a weeknight when UL brought less than 3,000 fans. I don't see East Carolina filling any 62,000 stadiums.

No need to drag the good folks at ECU into the mud from this malcontent's comments. He is no ECU fan but apparently a johnny-come-lately-live-vicariously-through-something-you-have-no-part-of Tar Heel fan who has a vendetta to insinuate that ECU should drop to 1-AA and the Southern conference.

I wonder where I could get a job that pays to do such nonsense all day.

And as a followup to Tigercat above, apologies to the Big East folks for bringing this to their site.

Louisville easily had 30,000 at the Liberty Bowl.

Photos of the Louisville game at the Liberty Bowl. It was a weeknight game and Louisville brought less than 3K. Not capacity, but pretty damn close...

There are no credible reports showing a BE vs SEC game in the LB. This is the least likely matchup the LB will offer. The LB coluld not wait to replace the BE in the 90's and they would not take that road again. Louisville would be a good draw.....but what happens when they get SU and the others....? No, a renewed CUSA vs MWC is the most likely outcome. Following that the current SEC team in the Indy bowl could easily move to the Liberty. Lets try to be at least a little realistic.

BTW...before all the Louisville fans point out the sea of red...a LOT of Boise State fans wore orange. I live close to the Liberty Bowl and made the mistake of trying to go to Central BBQ before the game and pick up lunch. Most the BSU fans I saw were in orange, not blue...and in that crappy picture, there's no discernable difference between orange and red.

However, I'm not debating that Louisville brought a few people...it's just not quite the dominant number of fans like some on here would lead you to believe.

I really hate to take up for Louisville, but virtually the entire east side of the Liberty Bowl was red. They had 30K. Do you dispute that? I'd rather spend New Year's Eve in Memphis than Louisville, wouldn't you?
