Lol yeah, you totally showed me teams missing all those things could out sell us, except for where you didn't.

Cincinnati is a fair weather fan city, regardless of the team. It doesn't matter whether its the Reds, Bengals or UC. The difference is UC has less of a loyal fan base, partly due to the lack of football success and partly because of the various local teams that carry a fan base in Cincinnati. Every city has their disadvantages and advantages...you aren't going to find a situation that is exactly the same as Cincinnati, but what I will say is that we clearly aren't reaching the number of fans/support to warrant a Big 12 Invite. If we were to get it, it would be because of other factors.

So, Coop is saying our fan base is more fair weather than most BCS schools.

Butterfly is saying that most BCS teams' fans would have cleared out rooting for last year's UC squad.

Advantage, Coop.

The big time fan bases change with the seasons, ours blows with the wind.

With the added interest that comes from playing those teams, audience size from casual interest rather than alumni would likely grow, so much so that it may warrant such an invite but now we're talking about hypothetical scenerios. What worth is there in that?
Fair weather doesn't apply to UC because they haven't been relevant enough to form a fan base yet. Those teams he's mentioned have been in big time divisions for a while now.
If it were simply a case of fair weather fans, then I imagine he could name someone in a comparable situation as us with better attendance, since he couldn't, I don't accept that explanation.

Agree that Cincinnati is a fair-weather-fan city, but they will support a winner. There's a lot of room for growth in the FB fan base as long as we're in a BCS conference and keep winning.....

Cincinnati is a fair weather city. This is a given. They will support an "event" and winning can be an "event."

As far as UC fball goes, we are in our infancy. All the top 10 power teams were there at one time. We need to keep growing our base through current students, recent graduates, and youngsters. We will be there. It takes time. We can't gain a fan base the size of TX or Oklahoma over night. It takes time and it took those schools time too.

Bingo. The student section has sold out I believe the past 3 years straight. These are the kind of UC fans that in 10 or 20 years could be contributing mass amounts of dollars to the UC athletic department be it donations or just buying season tickets. The seed is planted and is growing slowly and steadily.

Yeah - I get frustrated alot at the amt of butts in the seats. I started school when Murphy was the coach. Mostly lackluster teams, with the exception of the 8-2 season, which narrowly missed the Liberty (Ithink that was the bowl). Minter really planted the seed for my friends and myself. We saw a little light at the end of the tunnel and thought - why not? It grew under Dantonio and flourished under BK. I feel if we keep building we will get there.
