Part of the reason college football is not as big in the Northeast compared to the Midwest or South is that besides from PSU, and UConn very recently, the flagship State school's were not playing 1a football. Syracuse was my first love in college sports, but once I realized I couldn't afford it, it put a damper on my spirit. Ended up at a very nice mid-west school that was desperate for quailified out of state students and offered a lot of aid, and the rest is history.
If you are coming back home for Labor Day weekend--swing by the Dome for the WVU game. I'm involved in planning a huge tailgate catered by Dinosaur BBQ at the Armory Square Trolley Lot. You are invited.

Buffalo has no fan support, no winning tradition, and when everyone thinks of Buffalo, they think the Bills. I say no to Buffalo. When was the last time Buffalo been to a Bowl game? Thank you, end of thread. 03-puke

Most people think it is going to be a few years before the Big East expands again. In that time, Buffalo could improve their football program. Their basketball program is becoming one of the best in the MAC and attendance is starting to improve. Remember, there is more to a school and a conference than just football. Also, Buffalo is considering adding a lacrosse team and I am pretty sure there are at least a few Big East schools that play lacrosse and are good at it. I know Syracuse is one of them.

Anyway, you guys are saying no way but since the Big East isn't going to expand for a few years let's wait and see what Buffalo looks like in a few years.

Rocketfootball; Why are you so interested in seeing Buffalo in the BE? Are you guys trying to get rid of them?

I'm just kidding with you Rocket.

I echo what Nightwish said.....Buffalo is not ready for the Big East and they aren't going anywhere until they at least spend a few years being competitive in the MAC (in football) and upgrading some of the facilities. I'm from Buffalo and went to school at UB so I'm not talking out of my a**. Men's basketball is on the fast track to being a very good program (even though they will be hit hard by graduation losses in 2005-'06).
I guarantee though....once the football program gets competitive, they wil start drawing fans just like basketball has done. People love a winner, especially in Buffalo. It doesn't matter if it's Syracuse, Rutgers or Buffalo.....people will not come out in mass to see a losing team year after year for every game.

It's not that I am so interested, but I think they have a lot of potential. I am a fan of college football, not just my favorite team, so I tend to get into these conversations on other boards about stuff like this. Since I am such a big fan of the sport, I enjoy discussing things that don't necessarily have to do with my favorite team....Toledo.

I hear talk on here "give Buffalo 5 years".......the MAC has given UB 6 and they haven't gotten anywhere. They are just at too much of a disadvantage in a weak recruiting state and horrible weather during the winter to match it.

Nobody wants to go to Buffalo......I mean NOBODY. Somehow a million souls were stuck up in the tundra frozen in ice. The anti-Hawaii. I just don't see how UB is ever going to be able to ramp its program up given its location. The BILLS OF BUFFALO. How can UB expect to command a crowd when its small market NFL. Its a Division 1 caliber school and the MAC probably makes the most sense though with the geography of BUFFALO.

TOLEDO is almost as big as BUFFALO! BUFFALO metro is 1.1 mil and I think Toledo is 0.9 mil.......big difference TOLEDO not in the snow belt and where are those BILLS? At least TOLEDO is a 25k/5k football/basketball type program. The BILLS will have to move to ORLANDO and play in the Citrus Bowl before UB will get TOLEDO numbers at the gate in FOOTBALL.

I kind of wonder about CINCINNATI in Big East football having to go up against 6 1-A MAC schools in its own state. I'm sure it would benefit CINCINNATI FOOTBALL to have one of the other in-state schools join up solidifying the conference as BIG TIME. CINNCY is going to be a dud for the BIG EAST in FOOTBALL because its a commuter school in a smelly river town. OHIO has more VIRGINIA TECH in it being a rural residential campus, with a statewide student body.

Nightwish1094 Wrote:Yes...Buffalo is sad.

Give them 5-10 years and watch their progress, if they win the MAC and/or start winning consistantly...is is still such a horrible idea?

Its so easy to say.."Buffalo sucks, i just threw up at the thought of it". They have been Division 1-A for seven seasons, not until the 6th did they have all division 1-a recruits.

The Big East, has already once considered them...which shows they like something about the idea, however chose to go with Uconn, which was a very smart move.

I dont want UB in the Big East now either, as we need the best teams we can right now, but a few years down the road...i would like to see where they are and consider it. Alot of UB students are from New York City, if that bowl game in NYC ever comes about, that could play a part as well, if it could help raise attention around the NYC area for Big East Football.
What in the hell are you talking about? Lay down the crack pipe my man! That they have only been division 1A for 7 years and that they are one of the worst programs, if not the worst, at this level are two reasons why its insane to even suggest they should be added to the conference. Need I remind you that the Big East has taken a beating in the press over its perception of the BE as a weakend conference in danger of losing its BCS bid?! It would make far more sense to suggest adding BYU as an all sports member and that's NUTS! Jesus!

I really don't visit this board, but happened to drop by today and saw this post from a USF fan and just about fell out of my chair. Except for the Bills statement, you could substiture USF in every sentence and be correct. I'm not a smack-talker, but this one was just too obvious.

I think Cincy is going to be just fine in a conference that at last fits their geography, culture, and now academic mission.
