Dream 14 team conference:
Conference East:
Northeast Division
Rutgers
Connecticut
Cincinnati
West Virginia
Penn State
Pitt
BC

Corridor Division
Temple
Buffalo
Memphis
Louisville
Maryland
South Florida
Syracuse

From the Big East: Rutgers, Connecticut, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Pitt, Louisville, South Florida, Syracuse
From the Big Ten: Penn State
From the ACC: Boston College, Maryland
From CUSA: Memphis
From the MAC: Buffalo
From the MAC/A10: Temple

If we're going with 9 teams add Penn State to the Big East 8. For 10 add Temple and Penn State. For 12 add Temple, PSU, BC, and Maryland.

Personally I'd really love to see this for the ultimate Big Ten in 14 teams:
Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Illinois, Penn State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio State, Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers

See how easy it is to not have Big East football? Good thing that the magic number is 12 for a super-conference, and not 14, or else Syracuse and UConn would be gone too.

The Big East needs to forget about ever getting Notre Dame and Penn State in for football or for anything else. Notre Dame does not need to join a conference for football, and if they did , it would not be the Big East. It won't be the Big 10 either because of the catholic school animosity of the Big 10. Penn State is not giving up that Rose Bowl tie-in, no matter how ill-suited they are for the Big 10.

The Big East needs to add Memphis to secure the Liberty Bowl as a tie-in for the conference. A Big East/SEC matchup in that bowl would be huge. C-USA can easily pick up LaTech in Memphis' place, who is dying to get out of the WAC and those god-awful airplane trips EVERYWHERE they play a conference game. That's a good trade too, and it let's C-USA keep UCF for it's Florida market share.

Add a school like Virginia Commonwealth in the non-FB category, and the Big East gets a presence in ACC country. The Big East should have gotten Memphis and Charlotte and gone to 18 this past go-around. You've got 16...what can 18 possibly hurt? That would've been 9 and 9 and the Big East would have had options for going to a two division 'Federation'...one FB and one non-FB, with all sorts of hoops options then available.

You can still do it.

Auburnguy; it really is not as easy as you make it out to be not to have BE fb. With your scenarios, the same could be said for most any conference.

The BE is going to be fine thank you very much. And there is just as much desparity in BE basketball as compared to SEC basketball as there is a desparity between BE fb and Sec fb. The BE will not go away that easily.

The thread was for making up dream conferences, so I took it and ran with it.

The Big East will be fine. They will keep their BCS bid. I really wish that Boston College had stayed...it makes zero sense to have a small catholic school in the northeast in with a bunch of southern schools. If they thought that we hated John Kerry, they won't like it a bit being in with a bunch of red staters.

I thought that the ACC could make it work with 11 and stage a championship game if they had given it time and thought it through. Miami and VT in at 11 was perfect if the ACC could have gone to the NCAA and said, "hey, we don't need 2 divisions, we just want to have the top 2 teams out of 11 play in a championship game".

then, round robin hoops can be kept with a 20 game season. that's not much of a stretch from 16 and you don't have to worry about these goofy "primary partners" things like they have invented. women's hoops can do whatever they want with the 11 teams.

baseball gets a perfect 30-game season, with 10 three game series between the members.

yes I know this is a Big East board, but the 11-team concept has merit, even for the Big East in the future. The NCAA just wasn't lobbied hard enough by the ACC. The Big 10 was supporting their quest for 11 teams after the VT debacle.

I think it could have worked.

My dream conference made up of 14 all-sports members that could never happen:

Miami
Florida
Georgia
Georgia Tech
North Carolina
Duke
Virginia
Maryland
Penn State
Pitt
Notre Dame
Boston College
Syracuse
Connecticut

No league would be able to come close to it in terms of fan support, tv markets, academics, football, men's bb, and women's bb.

Cheers,
Neil

Hmm sounds like an Atlantic Pac-10. My version of it would look like this:

Boston College
Syracuse
Connecticut
Penn State
Pitt
Rutgers
West Virginia
Maryland
Duke
North Carolina
South Carolina
Georgia Tech
Florida State
Miami

Boston to Miami with a small deviation into Pittsburgh and Morgantown. Thats an insane league. Think of the academics too with BC, Cuse, Conn, PSU, Pitt, RU, UMD, Duke, UNC, GT, and UM.

Not bad Brista21, out of curiosity why you'd have South Carolina - no real major markets in that state and it's not like they are really good in either revenue generating sport or even academically. Since Georgia Tech needed a rival, I chose Georgia - much better academics and have more fan support. Didn't feel strongly about it though.

I love Florida State more than Florida - mainly because Nole fans are cool while Gator fans are not, but chose the Gators because they bring in more fan support, are the #1 team in the state of Florida in terms of markets, are better in bb than any other Florida team, and are also better in academics as well.

The other hard choice for me was Virginia over West Virginia. It came down to academics and market, although like Florida State, Eers fans are the best.

Lastly, Notre Dame over any other northeastern school not already on the list. I'm sure you understand why, just as I understand you putting Rutgers in your list 03-wink

It's all for fun and it's not like it would ever happen.

Cheers,
Neil
