Collaros with a fractured ankle
Quote:Collaros has fractured ankle
2:17 pm, Nov 13, 2011 | Written by bkoch | 1 Comments |

An MRI revealed this morning that UC quarterback Zach Collaros has a fractured right ankle. According to Butch Jones, Collaros will undergo surgery tomorrow and will be lost for the last three games of the regular season. There is a chance, Jones said, that he could return to play in a bowl game.

That means that sophomore Munchie Legaux will start at quarterback Saturday at Rutgers.

“Any time you lose your starting quarterback, it is what it is,” Jones said. “That’s football and we’ve got to move on. I’m positive and upbeat. We’ve got a great group of kids. You always look at the positive. We get to see our future a little early.”

Jones likes Legaux’s potential as a dual threat quarterback who can run and pass.

“He’s very athletic,” Jones said. “He’s in that process of going through thematuration phase as a starting quarterback. Munchie doesn’t have to win the game. He just has to manage our offense.”

Ouch. Was afraid of that after seeing replay. His foot was pointing the wrong way. Would love to see him come back for bowl game ( hopefully Orange).

All of the sudden the two road games look at lot tougher. Hopefully they can get Pead going more consistently. Lately it seems to be a huge gain or negative yards.

Get well Zach.

I figured he would be done for the year when I saw the play. I think Munchie has a lot of potential and getting more reps will help him a lot.

Hate seeing this for zach. He has been a great bearcat and was a huge part of 2009 and had team un position to win league this year. Now it's munchies turn to do what zach did in 2009. And I believe they can still win out.

Tough break for Zach. He made a lot of suspect throws but I'll never question his heart and desire.

Hope he heals fast. When was the last time a UC starting QB played every game?
Grutza in 05?

We need some serious OLine recruits.

Agreed. It will be invaluable for next year. Unfortunately I don't see another victory now until next season. Maybe UConn at home.

I feel real bad for Zach. Sounds like he'll be playing in our bowl game though. We're a shoo-in for a bowl, I just hope we can win out, so it's the one we want.

Butch has been doing a pretty good job IMO. OLs with size, not grow-into-the-position TE types. But it'll take awhile for them all to be ready. I'd rather have Hooey playing, but I'm glad that Lefeld is at least getting quality reps.

It's too damn bad Sam Longo wasn't available this year. He's probably one of our top three OLs.

I think 2/3 at least. None of our remaining three opponents are anything special. Rutgers will be tough though.

2 of 3 would be great considering the situation. We'll have to root for another WVU loss and if we lose to Rutgers they'll have to drop one more.

Was the WVU game the only Syracuse game you have watched this season? Outside of that one, they have looked like garbage.

Your kidding aren't you? Pead has to step up to take control of the offense whle Munchie doesn't make mistakes, runs the QB option read and the O-line has to give Munchie time to throw as he looked good when having time to stay in the pocket against West Va. and the D-line is playing like one of the top D-lines in the conference if not the top and you think they have no chance against Rutgers, Syracuse and UCONN?

I think they have an excellent chance to win out and go to a BCS bowl.

That stinks for Zach.

I would be extremely disappointed if they couldn't win at least two of the next three. UConn should almost be a gimme, and neither Syracuse nor Rutgers has impressed me when I watched them.

While this is the end of his playing career, I'm willing to bet it starts his coaching career. Graduate Assistant anyone?

I respect his gully, but it's been tough to see him on the field this year.
