I know one thing we do have in common right off the top of my head with the Big East.....Big time Basketball tradition. This is where we belong.

Believe me I'm very excited about the 3 schools coming in. But yes we do want to regionalize the conference, we used to be a northeastern league now we're almost a midwestern league with the center of our football fortunes in the Ohio Valley areas (UL, WVU, Pitt, UC). Now by all means UL and UC fit into the geographic footprint and let's face it Southern Florida isn't exactly like the rest of Dixie with all the transplants living there. However we just want some of our tradition mixed into the equation. Maryland in terms of football has alot more tradition with West Virginia, Syracuse, and Penn State than it does with the ACC sans for Virginia, a geographic rival. Hence the desire to have them around along with the obvious Temple, PSU, and BC.

-- I don't think its so much that we want to regionalize as it is most of us want a conference full of traditional opponets...I would bet the vast majority of Pitt, WVU, Su and Rutgers fans would vote to take Temple back if they actually committed to football...why? because they are a traditional opponet, all the schools that I mentioned recruit in Philly/eastern Pa, and because of the market...WVU and Temple had a great bball rivalry for decades and I would be happy to see them join up again if a commitment to the gridiron was made

-- I think UL and UC fit in fine with the conference....they have always been the "cousins" of the eastern Indys anyway and played WVU, Pitt, Penn St, BC and SU on a fairly regular basis in yrs past....USF is going to be an adjustment for both sides but hopefully we will grow together as time passes

-- If 10 team leagues are the wave of the future then I think we (as fans) would be fine with
Penn St
Pitt
Syracuse
WVU
Louisville
Rutgers
Uconn
UC
South Flordia
Temple

for the big east to really flourish, they need to bring back some of these old traditional rivalry games, it'll help drive up interest in the large northeastern tv market, where college football hasn't taken off as much as say the south. people forget how big pitt/penn was back in the day, it was even voted as the number one rivalry of the 80's by cbs sports. on paper it looks like it should be in both penn state and the BE best interest but it's not going to happen with paterno still around.

obviously geographically usf doesn't fit, but it's not like we had traditional rivals to begin with due to the age of our program. factor in the st. pete/tampa area with its large population of northerners and the BE desire to have a presence in florida and i think it's a good match. face it no matter how you try to rationalize it, if ucf was offered membership into the BE they would have accepted it, no questions asked. a regional conference is only as good as the quality of teams that are included. looking back at our time in cusa, no one cared if east carolina, tulane, or s. miss came to town, even though they are supposedly in our region, however the average fan will respond if syracuse, pitt, or wv come to town, teams people have heard of.

plus we have ample oppurtunity to schedule "regional" games with 5 ooc's every year, we've already got miami 1-1, north carolina 1-1, ucf 1-1, fiu 2-1, florida, famu and we're trying to schedule tulane and i'm pretty sure it will be only a matter of time before we schedule a 2-1 with fau as well.

I see you guys have an infestation of topcoog. It's ok though. He may be crazy but I believe him to be one of the happy types of crazy people. He could not care less for the BE or Memphis yet he's on the Memphis and BE with great regularity.
