The Big East would never in a million years take Bowling Green over Ohio.

Bowling Green, for one thing is only 14,000 students, 80% of which come from Northern Ohio.

Ohio has students from every corner of the state making it much more representative.

Not to mention we are centrally located between Pitt, WVU, UC, UL.

If academics have anything to do with the selection process, we have led the entire state in nationally competitive awards the last 3 years.

At one time, 33% of our students came from the East Coast. Can't say that about the other Ohio MAC schools.

One of the top student body graduation rates in Division 1-A. Comparable to the rates for Michigan and Wisconsin.

We are the oldest school in the Midwest.

With the best FB/BB facilities and salaries in the MAC.

You can pay 10,000 a head to hear Frank Solich speak.

And I wouldn't be surprised at the Big East trying to take a bite out of the MAC, a solid conference its its backyard.

Ignore the man behind the curtain. ..... no footbal is played west of the mississippi..... nothing is going on out here at all.... steady as she goes.

MW fans had better hope it is 'steady as she goes' :D

Colorado may be sending signals to the Pac-10 that they are interested in being #11 which could mean Utah will be #12 as her travel partner and to secure the Denver and Salt Lake City markets.

Cheers,
Neil

Unless something dramatic happens with the BCS, like them requiring all leagues to be 12 teams, the Pac-10 will not expand. There is not 2 schools available that will bring in enough money to make it worth it.

One a side note, someone on the MWC board brought up the very small possiblity of Fresno and Boise being added to the BE (yes I said it) as football only members. Most people laughed but in all actuality, that would essentially kill any BCS dreams for the WAC and the MWC IMHO. Now to just cover those travel costs...

How interested would you guys be in joining the MWC in regards to the new criteria for BCS AQ Status.

In my opinion it gives us a little more bargaining power with whatever we do. I truly believe that we need to be in a BCS conference wherever that is. Some people have said that staying in the WAC will be better if the conference champ gets to go to a BCS game but I don't see that happening with the weak conference schedule. Yeah we might win the conference but getting ranked high enough is difficult. I believe the MWC has some problems with the strength of the football teams and unless they invite us AND Boise, I don't think they will get an AQ right away(2008). Frankly though IMO we are dead in the water until we move to another conference plain and simple.

We have started building a rivalry with Boise and I would hate to see us not play them every year, I hope we are a package deal to any expansion.

The MWC would have to invite BOTH of you or it doesn't make it worth while to move to the MWC.

Now a MWC with a BYU, Utah, Fresno, Boise and TCU would make some serious rumblings for a 7th AQ status.

But the rest of the teams have to step up somehow. They are not impressive with 5 teams finishing under .500 last year out of 8. It is almost a wonder what the fuss is all about, but then all you have to do is look at the new WAC to moving to the MWC is actually an improvement. 03-puke

If the MWC is going to do this they would have to make overtures RIGHT NOW. You are right, talk to the MWC guys about this when they tried to compare us and the MWC. The major advantage we have here in the Big East is this, 6 out of 8 teams in our league had WINNING RECORDS.

Wyoming, San Diego State, Colorado State and Air Force need to step up.

I live in CA and I love how the Fresno team competes. It was great last year when you guys took it to Virginia in that blue bowl. I hope you guys end up in a better conference. If I had a choice, I would love to see you guys in the Big East but we all know it wont happen due to the distance. If you move to MWC, you pretty much have to fly there too. BE will just be 8 more hours on the plane.

I think going to MWC will be an improvement. SJSU with Dick Tomey might be better this year, but I dont know about rest of the WAC.

Regardless, BE is still a better conference top down than MWC even if they add you guys. Teams in the BE still has name recognition.

WVU, PITT & CUSE have rich FB traditions.
UCONN/UL/CUSE/PITT are national basketball powers.

Fan support is still stronger in the BE vs. MWC.

Good luck to the Bulldogs and I hope you guys end up somewhere nice. I think programs like Fresno, Boise and Hawaii are not getting a good deal in the WAC, but things can change. I dont see Pac-10 expanding anytime soon.

LOL, NO ONE is going to take up the arguement that the MWC is a better basketball conference than you guys! But we can never add Hawaii now because of TCU- I can just imagine our ADs looking at their travel budgets in absolute horror! UTEP would be #12, with the possibility of Nevada still hanging around as well. I would rather see us ditch UNLV, add Fresno and Boise and stay at 10, but I won't be saying that on the Mountain West board today (then hopefully we could still keep the LV bowl for old times sakes). You guys don't have any great options, but you have some decent ones. First of all, let me say that adding UCF or ECU would be suicide for you guys! Notre Dame would be great, Penn State would be pretty good, but neither of those are going to happen. I see your best options as Navy, Memphis, Marshall, and Bowling Green. No one else is worth another second of your deliberative time.
