Absolutely nobody likes this thing. Are any voices being heard? I they still going to go with this thing?

Just keep the old one!

Why trouble yourself with this? Our future logo will not be the<span style='font-family:Impact'> <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:blue'> Big East.</span> </span> </span>:D

The name "Big East" will stay with its founding schools if I-A schools go elsewhere.

So, for any UConn fans who can't wait to drop basketball series with Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Villanova in 2010 for teams like ECU, Marshall, and Central Florida instead, it'll be under a new conference name and a new conference history.

A split needs to happen in the worst way. I don't care what the new conference is called as long as it is an all-sports conference with an all-sports agenda.

We have no idea which, if any, of those teams will be in the new all sports conference, so to assume all three would be in is a bit of a leap.

It's also not really a very accurate comparison because you are comparing what would be the bottom three basketball programs on the football side to the top programs on the basketball schools side. A more fair representation would be Syracuse, Louisville, Cincinnati, Pitt, and WV compared to Nova, Georgetown, and Notre Dame. In which case, I have to say UConn would be better off forging (and for the most part continuing) an identity with the 1-A schools.

Please don’t be upset. Just because we not in the same league that doesn’t mean we can’t play with each other any more. UConn can still play Georgetown, Villanova, and Notre Dame every year as Out-Of-Conference games. Even when we are in the same league we don’t get to play each other on some year because the league is so big.

In theory, rivalries can withstand conference shifts. In practice, they rarely do.

With a 16 game conference schedule and assorted national TV games, there simply won't be enough room on the schedule for a 2010-era UConn team to play most of these schools again, and certainly not at the expense of giving up an additional home game to play a team on the road.

I suspect some type of Challenge series will be developed for the two leagues. My recommendations would be:

Seton Hall-Rutgers
St. John's-UConn

at MSG

Georgetown-West Virginia
ND-Syracuse

at The MCI Center

Villanova-Pittsburgh
Marquette-Louisville

at The Wachovia Center

Xavier-Cincinnati
DePaul-Memphis

at The United Center

Cheers,
Neil
