UC-Miami game moved for TV

The annual rivalry game between the University of Cincinnati and Miami University has been moved from Saturday, Sept. 24 to Wednesday, Sept. 28 to accommodate ESPN2's national telecast. A time for the game, to be played at Miami's Yager Stadium, has not been set. UC also will move its season opener at Nippert Stadium from Saturday, Sept. 3 to Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. "Hopefully we'll get nice weather and people can start their Labor Day weekend with a good football game," Cincinnati associate athletic director Brian Teter said.

Nice for Cinci to be on TV but I hate Wednesday games for Big East teams. I don't mind Thursday since there is a nice tradition of games there. Friday sux for HS FB but at least you can attend as a fan and maybe only miss one day of work.

Not only that but if you noticed our opener against Eastern Mich has been moved to a Thursday night, Sept 1.

I'm not sure that will go over too well for attendance.

Is it on TV? Thursday night games are good when the students get into it. They are tough for out of town fans to make though. I'm going to watch Cuse play at UConn on a Friday night but it is better because I'll only use one vacation day to do so and it is a 3 day weekend to boot (Columbus Day).

It pisses me off! 40% of our home games are on weeknights now, with another game that is easy travel on a weeknight. Of the 6 games I'm planning on going to this year, 2 are on Wednesday, and 1 on Thursday. This is total BS, IMO. I emailed Bob Goin about this, telling him that if he plans on expanding UC's fan base playing at times when the hardcare fans can't make it is going to kill the program. I live 60 miles away, get off work at 5PM. If I hightail it home, pick up my wife, then head down to Cincinnati I will get there in time to park and find my seat. No chance to tailgate, no chance to walk around campus, or visit the bookstore. Football is meant to be a whole day experience in my mind. UC had all kinds of good will lined up with the entry into the Big East, and IMO they are killing it with this change.

You are preaching to the choir. As I stated before: USF, Cinci, Rutgers, UConn initially will get most of the midweek games. The Big East Leadership is pushing the other four teams to most of the weekend TV slots.

Students do not even begin classes until the fourth week of Sept.
as UC is on the quarter system. I can understand the two TV switches but the opener????...I guess its due to the following: The Bengals and the high schools play on Fri Sept 2nd and the Big High School day at the Bengals stadium
is Sat all day and night with the areas best teams playing about six games .. ...I guess UC opted off the Sunday game
or Monday as the last several years have all been nationally televised on these days or it was not offered since the opposition is E. Mich. Sunday evening would be competing with WEBN fireworks on the river that draws 500,000 all day. I assume then the choice was Monday evening or Thursday evening. With a game at Penn St. it looks like they would rather have about nine days to prepare
this young team for that much bigger game. Hence they really had no choice but to oplay Thurs evening before this long party weekend in Cincy......At least the Reds are in Houston!

Most of the people don't show up for Riverfest until after 5PM. UC could have played a 1PM game and been fine. I think Bob Goin/UC screwed up in this case. They will be lucky to get 15K for a Thursday night game against Eastern Michigan. As one of the few "hardcore" football fans UC has (as in, someone who owns football but not basketball season tickets), I don't even know if I will make it to that game. I'd rather not take a half day off Thursday and another couple hours off Friday in order to see some crappy MAC team.

UC needs to realize it has a large alumni base in Dayton, Columbus, and Indianapolis, and reach out to them. In this case, I feel like they are saying that they don't care about me being a fan. The fans inside the 275 loop don't support them above 20K max, so they need to reach out to those of us who live an hour or two away.

The conference games don't bother me (especially one against WVU, UL, Pitt, or Syracuse). Those are set by the TV execs at ESPN, and I can handle that. This is an OOC game in which UC changed the time on their own. If it is a game that isn't going to get any national exposure, then it doesn't need to be on a weeknight. In my mind, this is poor long range planning by the UC administration. There is no excuse to play Eastern Michigan on a night when you won't be able to draw any way. They would get the same crowd whether it was Thursday or Saturday, only now they've pissed off a lot of fans.

I see you POV. However, don't be surprised if it doesn't show up regionally on FoxSports Detriot and Ohio.

Personally, it is a crap opponent and the attendance draw would've been tough regardless. I do tend to agree they should keep it on Saturday.

This is what makes me mad. UC again gets pushed aside in favor of high school football in Cincinnati.

UC has gone out of their way to make sure they don't schedule on Friday nights and what do they get in return? An all day high school football event at Paul brown stadium on Saturday.

In light of this it appears to make sense to schedule the opener on Thursday night. Looking at it realistically it seems to be UC's best chance of getting people there.

Either way, I suspect UC will only get 16-20,000 for the opener due to all the factors against them - bad night, MAC opponent (and a lower tier one at that), students not in school yet.
