UTSA to Sun Belt?
I'd like to see this scenario. UTSA and Texas State play one year in the WAC. Then, Louisiana Tech, Texas State, and UTSA go the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt then is able to have two divisions and a championship game.

I think the travel requirements in that scenario would be way better for UTSA. Plus, we'd get a second in state team in our conference, North Texas.

If the Sun Belt needs another western team, they could add New Mexico State from the WAC too.

If the Sun Belt was able to get to 16 teams, it could have two 8 team divisions and each team could play just 7 conference games. That'd leave 5 games to schedule outside of conference for each team. That seems like a good setup to me.

I'd be happy with that too.

UNT, Texas State, UTSA need to be in a conference together. Throw in some Louisiana teams/New Mexico State and you have a conference division somewhere. I don't care if that conference is the WAC, Sun Belt or whatever. I think it's important for smaller schools to be in tight footprint conferences to reduce travel costs and allow fans to travel to games.

I think the Mid-American Conference is the kind of conference smaller schools should strive to be in. The WAC, as it is now, is too spread out.

Whichever conference UTSA ends up in, I'd like to see leadership/sponsors in San Antonio get a second bowl and have it feature the UTSA's conference champ vs. the MAC Champ.

As you can read on the other thread, other MAC folks like that idea as well.

San Antonio is a great city.

Curious...what is your preference? A 2-division WAC with a Texas/LA/NM division or the Sun Belt?

Doesn't matter to me. A Sun Belt west division would seem to be easier to pull off. The WAC seems to be in a lot of trouble.

RE: UTSA to Sun Belt?
I personally like the idea of adding both UTSA and LT to the Sun Belt. Both would be WAC schools for the time being but are quite far from a lot of the other WAC schools. If we did add UTSA to the Sun Belt, I've got no doubt that it'd be a move to create two divisions, East and West, with the farthest school in the West division from UTSA being about 630 miles (UTSA to Arkansas State) while the closest WAC distance (excluding LTU, which is about 410 miles) would be 515 miles. The Sun Belt makes more sense, logistically, for UTSA in my opinion, and really there's not many other (if any) schools that would be good additions for the conference.

Add LaTech, UTSA, and Texas State to the west.

Add Georgia State and two other schools to the east.

End up with 16 football playing schools, 2 eight team football divisions with a championship game. 7 game conference schedule. Play up all 5 non conference games (no FCS schools allowed).

Seems like a no brainer. = )

In that case go 14/ Play 6 in division and 1 crossover. Although 5 OOC non FCS games may be tough to schedule

RE: UTSA to Sun Belt?
Remember the Sun Belt is only just adding its 10th (football) member. IF it were to expand, it would not be advisable to go beyond 12 teams. Get to 12 to get a showcased conference championship game, growing too fast can be detrimental to and derail the current growth trend.

I still think that getting a Central/East WAC division to go with a Pacific/West division would be the better alternative.
