let say if the the presidents decide to add a football only. could the bball schools WANT to add another bball school just to keep the voting balance equal. 16 hoop schools is enough for me to handle. but could we see a 17 team hoop league in the works just to keep the bball schools happy. just a thought

I don't think the hoops conference will get any bigger. Then again, I never thought we'd see a 16 team conference, so what do I know.

I agree, ECU should get the call.

i must be one of the only members of anyboard that doesn't see how ecu is a great addition.

first their football is horrible right now. their hoops is ok @ best. they are what the 3rd or 4th carolina team in the food chain for football recruits. and w/ spurrier taking over for sc i don't see how they could get anyone.

i would like to see memphis as the football only then brought into the league after this so called split. why. their football and hoops squads are better than ecu. memphis is the only logical choice other than psu and dame but thats another thread.

Who else could we invite and accept a Football only membership. I will not get Penn State or Notre Dame and ECU has been playing schools in the Big East in Football you decades.

Personally, I would invite Buffalo over ECU and Memphis, unfortunately they don't appear to be in the mix.

ECU was a regular in the Top 25 of college football through most of the 90s....even finished in the Top 10 one yr...they have the only football oriented fan base in NC.....And they are strikingly similar to VT before the Hokies joined our league....If the BE is really looking for the "the next VT" then one of the stongest candidates would have to be ECU

As I said in another post:

Please, no more federated/partial members. Have we not learned our lesson yet? If and when a split occurs, you're either all in or you're all out. Also, no more special (ND) deals. Can we just be a normal 9 or 10-team all-sports conference in 5 years, with like-minded institutions and equal revenue sharing? That's all I ask.
04-cheers

Quote:Please, no more federated/partial members

-- A football only member is going to be a necessary evil soon....the BE only has 8 football schools which means everyone only has 7 conference games...when/if the the 12 game college football season legislation passes we very well could be looking at finding 5 non conference games every year...an almost impossible task

-- I am sure part of the deal( if there is a deal)...is that ECUs part time membership is short term thing and that they will become a full time all sports member when the football school split come 2010...again...very similar to the path VT took when joining the BE

Jackson the 90s are waaaaay back there.Has ECU won ten games the century.Taking ECU puts the EAC on the BCS "bubble".If you blow your BCS birth with this move CUSA will be looking for an all sports team to bolster its BCS standing. How about it Cards ? time to lobby Banowsky?
You can count on Memphis for our vote.Home & Home anyone?

-- I didn't realize the 90s were that long ago :D ....must be older then I thought

-- The BE football schools BCS will depend on the success of pitt, syracuse, west virginia and louisville....I can't see how the addition of ECU as a #9 changes things at all in terms of the BCS...its the team/ranking of who is on top of the league that counts

I unerstand Army won a few national titles in the 40s and they are available. If you want to add a bottom feeder then why expand your league & split the pie into smaller pieces?because your conference is not very attractive to TV or bowl games(ask the Orange & Fiesta)The current BE is the BCS booby prize. As for Wilkie01 I'll put you down as a maybe.
