I travel to some away games--was wondering about your best Barbeque joints in your town. I'll start off:

If you come to Syracuse you have to try Dinosaur Barbque..located about three blocks North of the Armory Square area in Downtown Syracuse it probably the most well known BBQ joint in the NE. A favorite of Bikers and Yuppies alike. It started in Syracuse and has two satelitte locations in Rochester and Uptown Manhattan. It has a lively mostly Blues music scene and it is always busy

In Cincinnati everyone raves about Montgomery Inn ribs, and they are very good. But my personal favorite comes from a chain - Texas Roadhouse. They have excellent ribs.

Another reason you need ECU in the Big East is because Greenville has the best barbeque in the world! 04-bow

As noted, the "big name" around town is Montgomery Inn with locations in Montgomery (northeast suburbs - off I-71) and downtown on the river at the Boathouse. They also have a new location in N Ky.

<a href='http://www.montgomeryinn.com/index.html' target='_blank'>http://www.montgomeryinn.com/index.html</a>

But here's a really really good alternative for those of you coming to town: Pit to Plate.

<a href='http://www.cincinnati.com/freetime/dining/reviews/031904_pittoplate_yum.html' target='_blank'>http://www.cincinnati.com/freetime/dining/...oplate_yum.html</a>

I've actually eaten here a couple of times. It's... uh... really good guys. You have to take I-75 to the Cross County (Ronald Reagan) Hwy, and get off at Mount Healthy. But it is good. The only problem is no beer. So make sure to stop and get one of those afterwards. (unless they've recently gotten a beer license).

The Kentucky restaurant has been there for quite a while now... I wouldn't call it new.

Does Greenville mostly have the vinegar based yellow sauce like other areas east of the Piedmont?

I've only been to the Bardstown location, about 10 miles East of campus. Bardstown road in itself is cool. It's like an oldtown 3 mile strip of mom 'n pop shops, bars, elaborate churches, diverse restaurants, nightclubs, coffee houses, and even a McDonald's! A melting pot of sorts.

Michigan, Old Phil must be wondering if he has enough milk to wash down that doughnut. 04-drinky Plus I heard that he must be off his diet since Krispy Kreme stock is back on the rise. :D

If barbecue joints were the criteria of being in a conference, Memphis wouldn't be trying to get in a BcS conference, we'd be in the NFL! 04-cheers

Vinegar based?

Isn't that for chicks to douche with?

Not for barbecue.

We may have to reconsider ECU's invitation........ :crying:

No offense my C-USA brother, but if it ain't from Memphis, it ain't barbecue.

And I've had some of that North Carolina barbecue. Might be pretty good if they left the sauce out.

<a href='http://www.memphisinmay.org/index.asp' target='_blank'>World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest</a>

LOCATION: Tom Lee Park in Downtown Memphis. The park is located on Riverside Drive between Beale Street and Georgia Ave.

TIMES: Thursday, May 12, 2005 11:00 am to 12:30 am
Friday, May 13, 2005 11:00 am to 12:30 am
Saturday, May 14, 2005 10:00 am to 11:30 pm

It's the Super Bowl of Swine. The College of Pig Knowledge. The Granddaddy of Grills. The Largest Pork Barbecue Cooking Contest on the Planet.

The sweetest smelling cloud hovers over Memphis Hickory, pork, tomato, mustard, vinegar, more pork ... Three stuffed days of smoked heaven where contestants eat, sleep, and live pig. All oink wildly, trying to win more than $61,050 in prizes.

Grillmasters and goodtimers will descend on Tom Lee Park in downtown Memphis for serious competition that's seriously fun. Even the grills dress up for this party like fire trucks, airplanes, piggy banks, pot bellied stoves; you name it, it's probably here.

More than 90,000 pork lovers from around the globe Australia, Russia, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Estonia, Canada, France, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand and the United Kingdom gather together to testify about their special sauces, rubs, ribs, and whatnot in Pig-dom.

And, there's the Main Stage, the site of world-class musical entertainment and the Ms. Piggie competition (grown men in snouts and tutus). You'll see funny faces, famous faces, and might end up having your face on one of these special reports on NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, Southern Living Network, PBS, A&E, TBS, Gourmet Magazine, Food & Wine, Martha Stewart Living TV, or one of many other media reports.

Now, that's barbecue!

A little singed.

I have no doubt you do it right down there. No disrespect though, we know swine pretty well too. Hence the name: Porkopolis ?

Our proud other nickname.

Flying Pig Marathon?

But anyway. I'll gladly accept your offer of good eats the next time we're down there. Who knows when that'll be of course. But maybe when the Big Split comes. Or maybe when (if) we add that 9th fb school.
