A caller on a Memphis sports talk show said that he heard rumors from an SEC official about Memphis and Louisville joining the SEC.

Personally, I don't think there was any validity to the phone call. However, I figured the Louisville fans and TopCoog might find it interesting. TopCoog always said the thought Memphis might get in the SEC.

-- yeah...no way the SEC would add two more schools from states in which it already has teams and lots of TV coverage....only two schools I can think that would bring in enough cash to give SEC officials pause to consider going to 14 would be Texas and Texas A+M

No way in hell Kentucky would allow Louisville in the SEC. Anyway I am happy to be in the Big East and help build a potentially very powerful conference.

If we can just get Penn State to come home. Give me a 10 school EAC with the following:

Louisville
West Virginia
Pittsburgh
Syracuse
Penn State
Rutgers
Cincinnati
South Florida
UConn
East Carolina
Memphis or if they ever decide to go D-1 Villanova

Never been to Boston myself, but from what a few Bostonians have told me,

#12 UMass. could be the next BC and more

Unless an "economic upsurge" occurs and an "appropriate conference affiliation" surfaces for the Minutemen, they will not be going 1-A, according to their recent feasibility report.

I don't know just how cash strapped they are up in Amherst though, but I believe an invitation similar to what UConn and Villanova received could build a great deal of momentum for both private fund support and state support.

If the SEC were going to expand, it would set its sites on Texas and Texas A & M. Those two schools might make the move to 14 schools economically feasible. It would also tighten the SEC west as well. Believe me, Texas and Texas A & M are the two schools that the SEC covets.

The SEC isn't expanding to 14. They're definitely not taking Memphis and Louisville, that makes zero sense.

It makes more sense for Memphis and Louisville to accept an upgrade to the SEC......

......than Penn State and ND for a downgrade to the Big East.

As long as Joe Paterno is the head coach of Penn State, they are not going to withdraw from the Big Ten.

I don't personally think Joe Pa retiring will help the Big East's bid for the Nitters.

Joe Pa is an Eastern guy, if it were more lucrative, or even if they were to just break even switching from switching to the Big 10 to the Big East, he would do it.

I don't see the situation changing any with a new coach at the helm.

-- If Penn St would happen to come in...there is no reason to expand beyond 9 unless #10 is ND, BC or Maryland....any other school would just dilute the cash coming in

-- While I think we can agree that PSU is a long shot...it is more likely then ND coming in full time in football

No disrespect, but stop making an idiot out of yourself. Worry about the MAC, which is clearly a downgrade from the SEC, Big Ten AND Big East. Funny you rip on the Big East and at the same time try to preach about your team's worth to the Big East. Envy is a b*tch huh?

Actually Paterno WANTS to move to the Big East, or has a ton of interest in it.

Memphis is to the SEC,as the Big East is to Penn St.
The Big East is more comparable to CUSA than to the SEC(a marginal BCS member)
While the BE would be a step up from CUSA it is still a league that could be picked
apart by any other BCS conference looking to expand. If the Big 10,ACC, or SEC
came calling every BE member would accept the invitation and head for one of these
more established leagues

There are schools from some BCS conferences that would jump for an opportunity to go to another BCS conference so don't act like the Big East is the only conference. Comparing it to C-USA is stupid. You don't think that if, say, the ACC came calling for Vanderbilt they wouldn't seriously considering taking that invitation? Or the SEC called some other BCS conferences? It's all the same, the Big East is just more vulnerable because of it's instability,
