Good question; who will get the Big East name after the split?

While I'm still catching up on Big East history, I believe that there would be more basketball schools than football schools that have been with the Big East since the beginning (???) 5 original basketball, 4 original football, with West Virginia and Notre Dame coming in later? (Is this right??)

Anyways, with Tranghese being a basketball guy, I would put my money on the basketball schools getting to keep the name.

My guess is the Catholic schools will ge tto keep the Big East name, unless the football schools wanted to fork over an extremely large sum of money to buy the name away.

Another question to ask is which side would get the BE tourney at MSG? Contractually, I would imagine MSG stays with whoever 'is' the Big East, but you have to wonder if MSG is shelling out big bucks, who be be a better draw: Seton Hall, Providence, St. Johns, etc or UConn, Syracuse, Pitt, etc.? I think we can all agree the latter would be. I think both TV (ESPN) and MSG would probably agree.

I really think some of the fans of the bball onlys want the split has badly as we do...

-- As for MSG and the conferecy tourney...I think it would be a mistake to have the all sports league tourney in NYC....Let's just assume that the EAC adds Memphis and stops at 9...It doesn't make sense of have the bball tourney that far away from the rest of the legue...I would be for having the Tourney at Freedom Hall...with driving distance of Pitt, West Virginia, UC, UL and Memphis fans

-- It is going to be an adjustment for UConn, Su and Rutgers fans when the split takes place....the center of the league takes a major shift south from Ny/New England to the Ohio River Valley

I have to disagree with you here, Jackson. There is no greater marquee value for a league than to have it's tourney in the "world's most famous arena" in the #1 media mecca.

I'm really banking on that's Jets Stadium getting built so neither league has to leave NYC.

BE tournament will never happen at Freedom hall unless it is rotated every year. I rather have it in the east coast. Hartford Civic center wont be bad or the Carrier Dome.

I am really against having the tourney in NYC everyyear...I think the location of the conference tourny needs to reflect the geography of the league's members....and really only 3 out of 9 or 3 out of 10 schools will be in the NYC area....I can handle a rotation between the Carrier Dome, Freedom Hall and Memphis's area...
