Bill Herrion has been dismissed as of the end of the season. Terry Holland has apparently decided to go in a different direction.

Holland is trying to right the ship at ECU and this is another move to do so.

I like Bill Herrion and think alot of unfortunate things have happened in the program ie player retention. Some his fault some not.

OK let me think this out.

USF Hoops defeated ECU in hoops and Herrion walks the plank!

Is that an an inditement aganist ECU or USF?

Doherty, I believe, would be the PERFECT guy for the job. He's a very good coach who got fired after taking over a horrible North Carolina program at the time. He built the foundation for this year's North Carolina team, that is his team. He built the foundation for the Notre Dame program. I think he could work wonders at ECU while shoving it in the face of some of the higher ups in the Carolinas who fired him without giving him a chance.

There has been discussion about Matt Doherty coming in. But that name seems to divide the Pirate Nation. I personally think he got railroaded at UNC-Chapel Hill. I personally think Roy Williams made it known to the folks up there he was ready to come and with that Doherty had to go.

Incidentally I heard from reliable sources over a month ago that Doherty was on campus meeting with Coach Holland. Now with that being said I do not believe that Coach Holland would bring in a candidate for a coaching job when the current coach is still in with a lot of time still to play in the season. Much less bring him to campus where eyes would see him. Probaly was just two former basketball coaches getting together one (Doherty) seeking counsel from a veteran respected head coach (Holland).

But to you guys in the BE I would take this as another example of East Carolina working to better its athletic department so the next time realignment comes up, we will be ready.

Whoever the new coach is....It is very important that ECU basketball at least improve to the point were it is making the NIT most years....getting Doherty would be huge
