Quote:Actually, Marquette was almost a Big East member in the early 90's, when the football conference was formed. During an interview during halftime of one of MU's recent games, MU's AD told the story of when the football conference was formed, Notre Dame was pushing for MU to be included in the BE. The basketball schools agreed and decided to block the addition of any more football schools until MU was added. However, St. John's changed its vote at the last minute and the vote on MU never took place. So, evidently MU was on the BE radar for a long time.
-- Thanks for posting MU88....This passage describes the BE problems beatifully...the bball onlys want to add schools similar to themeselves but are unable too...the football schools need to expand for obvious reasons but are also unable to because of the voting blocks....The football schools had a very hard time getting VT in for all sports despite the fact that the Hokies were so important to the football side of things

How about Florida Polytech (Florida Tech) instead of South Florida ???
or Tampa Bay University
University of Orlando instead of UCF.
or Disney University
or Cave of Wonders College?

There's only one thing I can think to send downriver to Memphis, old buddy.
Look. I'm not acting "high and mighty". I'm saying that we've been playing Memphis for a long time and people around here aren't interested in Memphis as a rivalry. I've never said that I hated Memphis. And I took great pleasure in our beating Memphis this year. I'm just saying don't stick us in a division of southern schools. Cincinnati is not southern, and the fan base does not want to play a southern schedule. That was the biggest problem with CUSA was that it was in the end primarily a southern conference with a few outlying northern schools. CUSA was good for certain things, but that was the one thing it was not good for us.
We can bring Memphis in to the EAC for the split, but we need to stop at 10 or 11. We don't need to break into separate football divisions.
