Think your prediction is about right. I could see 18-12 or 17-13. Let's say we do end up 18-12 & go 1-1 in CUSA tournament and we end up at 19-13. Do we buyout Wojcik ?

I think 20 is the magic number. If Wojcik hits 20 wins (very possible depending on our CUSA tourny seeding), and he's here another year.

I think a lot of this depends on the deal "cut" with the new AD. Was he a safe haven for the status quo or is he supposed to be out version of Donald Trump.

So far so good on the prediction. I pretty much agree that it will play out that way. And also I think we win one in the CUSA tournament and what'll you bet we win one in a post season tournament and get 20. Ha, Ha! That would be funny. It might cost us the coach going to a big time program instead of coaching "just for Tulsa".

UAB will more than likely be a loss as well.

Rabid, the more I think about it, "just Tulsa" is the key. Woj's attitude when he came here & obvious lack of respect for Tulsa basketball is a big part of his mediocre results. If you don't believe in what you're selling, you won't be a good salesman.

Doug just didn't believe Tulsa was an NCAA tournament caliber program, IMO. I speculate that he thought he would take this job for 2-3 years & move "Up" the coaching ladder. Unfortunately for Doug & TU, things haven't worked out that way.

Jester still perfect on his picks. I still see 17-13 or 18-12. 1-1 in conference tourney. Interesting month ahead for TU basketball.

My new name for DW is "mediocre Doug". I wish I was wrong. We have a coach that may be entrenched in "20 win-itis".

RE: Rest of season prediction
I was at the game here vs Houston when DW became the so called "winningest coach" and they put up his highlights on the big screen. I couldn't help but laugh under my breath. The CBI, a home win vs OSU and finally the win against a substandard Memphis. I thought - that's it? After 7 years thats the highlight reel? What would those highlights look like compared to Iba, Nolan, Tubby, Self, even Ken Hayes and JD Barnett for that matter. But a few seconds later I gave the man respect by standing and clapping. I'd do that for any TU coach - Keith Burns and John Phillips included.

The real shame I see with the new alignment and league minus Memphis, SMU and Houston is there are a lot of TU fans that say "Well, we have a shot at the NCAA tournament and might win the league in FB now". But that is such short sighted thinking that makes me want to explode. Don't they get it? A watered down league of meaningless wins and meaningless games is what most of the teams in the country want to stay away from like the plague.

RE: Rest of season prediction
Jester, IMO it would be a win, win for us if all the rest of your prediction is correct except the last one - - - we beat Memphis here. They evidently are erratic and inconsistent. If we could beat them and win at UAB and Tulane, we have a shot at the NCAA's by winning the tournament IF (and this is a big IF) So Miss loses at Marshall and UTEP assuming they don't stumble at home. We would numerically be the #1 seed which means the easy path to the championship because (if all goes according to the seeds) USM and Memphis would meet in the semi's and we'd have the easiest "4th" seed in Elvis-town. That would be the best path for us. If DW were to get 20 wins this year and make it to the NCAA tournament, he'd be odds on to go to a Big 10 or ACC school needing a change of direction. Then we'd have a great shot at hiring someone who is a great recruiter and be able to lure a couple of kids that would like to play at TU, but won't necessarily like Wojcik-ball. Cason's name has been thrown around and I'd certainly entertain that as a possibility from what I've heard about his coaching style, recruiting and style of play. Right now, we need someone who can inject enthusiasum back into the program and we have the youngsters who could do that already on campus IMO. But whoever it is will be an immediately better fit than DW after 7 years. He raised the bar a little and ran a clean program.

But its obvious that we need to change direction and take the next step up. We could wish DW well and get on to bigger and better things. So lets hope UTEP and Marshall are really tough season ending venues and we have an all out effort to beat Memphis. IMO. I like win-win scenarios.

RE: Rest of season prediction
I like and prefer a win-win situation like you but one way or the other Coach W has got to go before we get going. It almost looks like sometimes the players are saying the hell with the coach we are going to have a little fun and play like we want to......which is the way they should be playing all the time. The players today aren't robots and no matter how much Coach wants them to play like that.....it's not what they want or any future recruits want. Good players choose Duke because they know they will get to have some fun and just play basketball......score as much as they can.....and again have fun beating up on people!!!!!!

RE: Rest of season prediction
I was watching Duke play the other day on TV and was thinking to myself that is way an offense is run. You could tell the players knew exactly what they were going to run and did so crisply. If Dougie got out of his own head and watched what the best teams do he might have more success. But you have to think he has done this though and its His application of those principles by the best teams that has failed.
