UConn Accepts Motor City Bowl Invitation
2:03 PM EST,November 30, 2004
By TERRY PRICE, The Hartford Courant

The UConn football team has accepted an invitation to play in the Motor City Bowl, according to a source. UConn was to make an official announcement at 4 p.m.

It is the first bowl invitation for the school.

The Motor City Bowl is Dec. 27 in Detroit at Ford Field, and will be aired at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN. The Huskies (7-4) will play the MAC champion, either Miami of Ohio or Toledo. Miami and Toledo play in the MAC championship game on Thursday night, with the winner advancing to the Motor City Bowl.

UConn earned a bowl bid in only its third season as a full-fledged Division I-A program. The Huskies were 3-3 in their first season in the Big East. They also were mentioned for the Continental Tire Bowl in Charlotte, N.C., Dec. 30, but Boston College took that bid.

Not so bad at all!!

UCONN got Motor City
BC got the Tire Bowl instead of the BCS
UVA got BOISE!! Yeah.. BE told ACC to go to hell and UVA is forced to go to Boise.
CUSE might end up in Independence bowl, Insight, Las Vegas or Hawaii. All those are better than Boise.

BE did not come out bad at all.

you're right.. all things considered, everything turned out really well for the BE.

And with Cincy and Louisville in Bowls, that's 6 of 8 NBE teams in bowl games. Not bad.

MT stepped up to the plate.

And Virginia already dislikes arrogant BC.

Great Day for the Big East.

Congrats to UCONN and CUSE.

the folks in the know on the Syracuse boards all seem to think that it will be Syracuse v. Wyoming in the Las Vegas Bowl.

That should be a good chance for the NBE to get a bowl win.

Let's see..... we've got:

Pitt vs. Utah - -- Fiesta

West Virginia vs. Florida State - - - Gator

Louisville vs. Boise State - - - Liberty

Connecticut vs. Toledo/Miami - - - Motor City

Syracuse v. Wyoming - - - Las Vegas

Cincy v. Moooshall - - - Fort Worth

Not a bad lineup. the NBE team should be favored in 3 of them, certainly.

UL should be about a 10 point favorite over Boise
Syracuse at least a touchdown over the Cowboys
Cincy a 4 or 5 point favorite over Marshall

I would guess Toledo or Miami would be slight favorites over UCONN

FSU about a touchdown favorite over WVU

Utah about a 10 point favorite over PItt.

If that is how it stacks up, assuming SU to the Vegas Bowl, I think the NBE have a reasonable shot at running the table, or at leat making a very good showing.

GO NBE!!!!!!

Thanks too. I am expecting UCONN football to be a household name in a few years. UCONN fans are feeling the momentum of this football program. I predicted at beginning of the year we wil l finish 8-3 and we ended up 7-4, not too shabby.

Now we have to go out and beat the MAC champ. In the next few days, we will find out how much UCONN fans love their Huskies when the bowl tickets go on sale. Although timing is not the greatest (2 days after xmas) and it is in Detroit, I do expect a good showing of UCONN fans in Detroit.

It should be a great game. We dont know what will happen next year, but we are enjoying this current year. I am sure Randy will have some magic up his sleeves. We will be young next year but I suspect our talent level will be much better.
