RE: [split] Syracuse’s basketball program repeatedly violated its internal drug policy
The money the federal government spends on cracking down on marijuana is absurd. It's also a huge state's rights issue which I think typifies the continuing increase in centralized power in the federal government.

We need more meat on the bones of the Tenth Amendment. If states want to legalize marijuana for medicinal or even any purpose, they should have the right to do that without interference from the federal government. The right to control locally grown marijuana for entirely in-state consumption OR the private growing of marijuana for personal consumption is not a power expressly given to the federal government and should therefore be left to the states to handle.

Unfortunately, our commerce clause jurisprudence has granted the federal government broad power in arenas such as this and the idiocy of Wickard v. Fillburn allows them to regulate operations that have no parts that move in interstate commerce as long as they have a 'substantial economic effect' on it. Boo. Shame on the Court for not reigning this in long ago.

Decriminalizing marijuana, and giving retroactive amnesty to all persons in jail on marijuana charges, would empty half our prisons. That would be another financial benefit for a nation in dire need of financial benefits...
