Agree that you can't do that movie with anything less than a R rating.

Didn't know the anime movie was only a portion of a larger story.

I really wish they wouldn't do this movie. Akira is intrinsically Japanese, so to do an American remake is insulting to the source material.

I saw Ran in theater… pretty much King Lear, with great panoramic battle scenes.

We got Seven Samurai from the Japanese, they in return have
produced a bastardize animation version of The Swiss Family Robinson.

RE: Interesting Akira live action remake news
To be honest, this is one of those movies/remakes/rehashes.. that I hope NEVER gets working.

There are some Japanese animes that would work in a live action model, but this one is definitely NOT one of them. (Akira was the first full-length Japanese anime I ever actually saw).

This one is a little more adult in nature than those Saturday Morning cartoons most Americans grew up on.

If they did it live action now it would easily be a R and if they did the original anime justice it should be NC17 for the gore and violence.

I kind of agree... the sci-fi nature to some of the story would be tough to do.

I think Ghost in the Shell would have a shot though... ooh wait... they already did The Matrix. *sigh*

Call it manga, call it anime.. it's still the same principle.

Appears the original creator of the manga and the subsequent anime has the final say if this can ever get off the ground.

This thing might actually happen.

I just don't know how it will ever work in live action.

The original anime strikes me as a movie that would be hard to do properly as a live action one but whatever. I honestly never thought the original was all that even if I did like some elements of it.

The original anime was a not so good adaptation of the original manga to me. The anime had great animation and great attention to details, but it didn’t do the story justice.
