That's just rude.
Regardless, 'no poaching' should be standard in the contract. What coach would object to "if you leave, you can't take players with you?"

Doesn't surprise me - I figured that would happen all along. I have no problem with it - honestly I'm not sure that Tim Harrison won't end up being better than MLE or Douglas. And Meyer might not be much worse either. We want guys who want to be here is the bottom line.
I do wonder sometimes though that athletes who get expensive surgery while they are a student-athlete at Rice sign some of provision that if they leave after 1 year, they owe Rice part of their medical bills. I say that knowing it will never happen, but that's my biggest beef. I doubt Douglas would have gotten the expert medical care if he was at some small D1 school in the middle of nowhere.
Student athletes are covered by parents and the college in varying amounts. The NCAA requires a level of coverage before a student can play. The conditions under which an athlete is injured also plays a part. The parents insurance is generally first and then if treatment exceeds that then the schools step in. There is also issues if the athlete seeks a course of treatment that differs from generally accepted guidelines.
The NCAA does fully fund a catastrophic policy with a $90K deductible but it isn't up to the school to provide money for the deductible. That is handled on a case by case basis.
All of this is why the Northwestern football team sought to be covered under workman's comp for injuries suffered while participating in their sport.
2018 Mac McClung, who we were showing considerable interest in, just got offered by Georgetown so I figure that's about it for us on him. Hoping that's not the case since he's a really exciting guard, something we're definitely looking for, but hard to compete with the big boys.
Don't really know where to put this, but I was watching back some of Najja Hunter's HS tape, and it turns out he played a little PG. Probably why the staff didn't seem desperate to get another PG late in the recruiting process.
New offer out to 6-8 2018 G Drew Peterson, who I assume we saw play during the live period. Best offer is from Tulane. He's rail thin and is actually listed as a combo guard by some services. 247 has him as a top 300 player with interest from the likes of Stanford, Northwestern, and Michigan. From the very brief video I've seen of him it looks like he can shoot the heck out of it, and with his height, there aren't too many guys he can't get it over.

-2018 Mac McClung, who said a couple months ago that Rice was one of the schools he was hearing from most, got an offer from Rutgers to add to his offer from Georgetown. He's probably going to pick up a bunch more power offers, so we might be priced out soon.
-2019 G Jordan Simmons seems to be heavily involved with Rice on social media. I haven't found too much info on him, apart from him being a PG from Dallas, but he follows the entire coaching staff and has liked tweets from Rice Basketball's account.
-2019 Anderson Kopp got an offer from Texas A&M. He's part of the Houston family that has shown interest in Rice. Unfortunately, it's possible Texas A&M realized Anderson wants to play with his older brother (who was just offered by A&M), and is trying to sweeten the deal.
-Also, 2018 7-3 Connor Vanover who visited Rice a couple weeks ago is drawing more interest from some SEC schools, so we'll see how his recruiting process plays out.

This article says Connor got offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Alabama and Vanderbilt in 2015.
Their mom (maiden name: Robyn Irwin) played center for the Razorbacks 1986-89. They were 6-0 vs the Owls during those years. She still holds the Arkansas record for most blocked shots in a game (9) and is also in the Razorbacks' record book for rebounds and free-throw shooting percentage.

Did his dad play football at Rice? (Jeff)? Possibly a nephew or cousin?

Saw a tweet that Coach Pera is at the AAU game between YGC36 and Basketball University (both Texas teams). Bunch of guys on both teams that we've been connected to or are possibly interested in:
2018 G Kyler Edwards (Texas - Arlington)
2018 G Isaac Likekele (Texas - Arlington)
2018 F Zac Watson (Texas - Dallas)...he also mentioned us in a Scout article about schools he's looking at
2019 G Javonne Lowery (Texas - Pearland)
2019 F Will Baker (Texas - Austin) 4*
Also of note, and this one will please those clamoring for Rice to target local guys, from Houston 2018 PG Nigel Hawkins: “SFA, Texas A&M, South Florida, Oral Roberts, & Rice have been pursuing me the most so far and I like that they are going to give me the opportunity to play early and to win. Location and playing style won’t impact my decision really.”

Mac McClung to Rutgers. Tough loss. Between his athleticism, internet fame, and familial connections he would've brought some positive attention to the program.
