If they split the conference into East/West divisions with anything other than that lineup, I call shenanigans.

It pains me to say this, but I agree.
LOL, I know what you mean. But, if the divisions are to be East and West, then it has to be split by geography. so, this is the most fair way to split, right?

This is exactly what Addazio said months ago. Temple prepared for this... go west for 2 years, but the Rutgers game would remain. Not a big deal.

Do you think Addazio would say anything less even before his first game in the conference? I doubt he or the university would take the stand publically of “if we aren’t in the east we aren’t coming into the conference”.

All I’m saying is I understand they are going west, but the adverse effect on them will be greater than any other established Big East program.

Its irrelevant. Its 100 times better than where we were at. Its not like Akron was filling the place. Throw in our game at Idaho and we'll be racking up the frequent flyer miles.

After expanding this way (by choice and desgin), it was painfully obvious that a single eastern team would have to 'take one for the team' and be in the western division. Even adding another western team does not help, as they will come in with the eastern Navy.

Sorry to say, there is no solution. All our 'mid' teams are already in the west. Our eastern teams are really eastern. No matter who you picked, it was going to be wierd for someone. Looks like they are leaning Temple, but there is no rationale whatsoever, it could have been any eastern team. I really feel for Temple having all those far west division-mates.

Clearly they could have expanded 6-6. Anyone think they didn't have faith in the 'western division' and wanted a bit of an eastern slant, just in case? I really have no idea.

Works for me if Temple does not mind. I love this conference and would not want to change any of the new teams.

If Navy takes the spot in the east and Temple becomes a permanent member of the west you can have all the crossover games with Rutgers and UConn that you want, the program will never perform as it should and be dead in no time.

Being in the West will kill Temple but will somehow be OK for Navy?

Navy has bases in San Diego and Memphis... So I'm sure that would be the selling point for putting Navy in the West.

From what I've read on here, the Navy AD has mentioned wanting being in the West and I know I heard former Tigers AD RC Johnson mention Navy wanting to be in the West if the divisions are based on geography.

Navy draws "OK" in San Diego. Not great or even good.

Temple in the west is probably short term.

I don't care where Louisville ends up, as long as Memphis isn't on the schedule.

What's wrong? You don't like it when Memphis puts a beat down on Louisville? Just accept the fact you pull for an inferior school.

UCF is a better option because they have history with Memphis, SMU, and Houston.

I agree with this statement about UCF. I enjoy playing UCF. Every school would have a presence in Florida.

I still want to play Cincinnati and Louisville every year.

The divisional setup is going to be messed up until all 14/16 teams are put in place. Hopefully Temple will get back in the East when Navy et al join.

I'd hardly call our time in CUSA "history". We're 7-0 against Memphis (8-0 later today), 3-1 against Houston, and 3-1 against SMU. The only significant games in all of those were defeating Houston at home in 2009 for our first ever win over a ranked team, and defeating SMU in the 2010 CUSA Championship.

Still, if BYU were to join and USF would be our cross-division game, I'd be ok with UCF in the West I suppose. Guaranteed games against USF, Boise St, and BYU sure would be nice. Most of the time, our other draw from the "East" would be either Louisville, Cincy, Rutgers, or UCONN. Throw in some decent OOC games and it's not a bad schedule. This is assuming we'd stick with an 8-game conference slate with 6 games in-division, and 2 games cross-division like the SEC does not.

I just don't see the being a succesful model despite what the AD says. First these players are engineering students which is hard enough. Then you put them in a division where they have to play in the west later in the day at least 3 times plus if they schedule any OOC games in the west.

Flying west to east is not easy and they will likely get back early Sunday morning on the western trips. These guys aren't taking basket weaving. They have to study for real classes the next day. I just don't see this being workable long term.

This is funny that this thread went this long...like someone said earlier the 5 remaining will stay together...it makes the most sense and that is what the remaining schools want.

Outside of a couple teams this is a mid major conference. Sad to see this is what the Big East has become.

Go away, man. You're a one trick pony. At least try to actually add something to the conversation, once in a while.
