"At the BIG EAST, Brazeau will be the lead administrator and contact for men’s basketball. He will represent the conference in overall administration, management and control of the men’s basketball programs. He will serve as the conference’s liaison with Madison Square Garden, home of The BIG EAST Championship. Brazeau also will work with all internal basketball constituencies, including institutional administrators, coaching staffs and game officials.

In addition, Brazeau will help develop and cultivate relationships with television and sponsor partners. He will assist with basketball television and scheduling issues."

Translation: He's the BBall Godfather. Given Brazeau's resume Aresco will likely be a hands-off boss...

RU ready for Primetime!!
Aresco might be hands off in the day-to-day details of basketball ops, but not hands off in day to day operations of the BE. There is still plenty for the commish to do. Same goes for Carparelli and football.

That's exactly what I meant. With Brazeau's resume he had to be assured this was going to be his op to run for him to leave the NBA for the BE. Aresco is currently a media guy learning the ops side of commish on the job. I think its a great idea to bring on additional leaders, while still being the ultimate lead dog. That said I don't think Carparelli is going to have nearly as much control on the football side, I think that's going to be Aresco's first area to delve into personally.

I have the exact opposite assumption. I think Carparelli has been deemed worthy, and Marinatto and Tranghese, who didn't give a damn about football, never gave Carparelli the reins. Now Aresco will. We need 3 strong execs, not two. Plenty of work to go around.

Yep. Carparelli needs to deal with the FB ADs and coaches. The NBA guy needs to deal with the BB ADS and coaches, and Aresco needs to deal with the presidents. Among other stuff, of course.

That certainly sounds like a New York City position to me.03-cloud9 (Especially for a guy who's NBA HQ address was on 5th Avenue in Manhattan).

Big East HQ....come to New York City (at least metro area...maybe Southern CT) soon!

Well, not that it matters, but NYC ios closer to EVERY NETOWRK headquarters then Providence. It is also closer to Bristol Connectiucut.

But serioulsy though, Aresco pretty much already said the BE would have bsuiness offices in NYC. But the main office might stay in Providence as it's both less expensive, and keeps the day to day staffers from havign to relocate. A lot of companies do this, havign a business office in NY, Chicago, or LA, and have the "regular" office someowhere else. When I was at Aegon/Transamerica, the corporate offices were in Cedar Rapids, IA and Baltimore, MD (where I was), but they had business offices in San Francisco, LA, Tampa, Dallas, London, and every major city in Europe.

So the obvious question is do you announce the move before or after the tv contract?05-stirthepot

After listening to Carparelli in several radio interviews last summer, I was impressed with his obvious intelligence and communicative ability and have full confidence in him. He would probably have made a good commissioner, but of course we desperately needed someone of Aresco's stature and TV background. We now have a great leader who has competent aides at his side.

Yeah, I'd call the NBA Director of Basketball Operations for 10 years a "competent aide," lol.

Brazeau is Back - Journal Inquirer

Some more quotes from the new Chief of BBall:

"It’s going to be great. I can’t wait to get rolling," said Brazeau, who coached the Hawks from 1992-2000 and has been the NBA’s vice president of basketball operations since 2001. "This is a great basketball conference. It has been for 30 years. We’re looking forward to build on the excellence already established."

It really is awesome to hear this long time NBA exec be so excited to come to the BEAST!

Not to mention we have a really well placed ally in Brazeau's predecessor, Dan Gavitt, who was been hired by the NCAA to run the men's basketball tournament!

The takeover is in motion...
