This board will be unbearable in the next few weeks if they are mentioned. Then again Brando mentioned by name UNLV, Fresno, and New Mexico a few days ago.
More proof no one know anything.
I think Ehrhart is probably a lot more plugged in to the BE than Brando, especially since the Liberty bowl and hte Big East have a relationship. And Ehrhart rarely says anything in public (unlike Brando), so he's not looking for website hits or radio listeners, lol.

Personally, I hope it's another team from the west. There needs to be more teams west of Texas if this "national pitch" is going to work. As a Boise State fan, adding an eastern team will sour my opinion of this move a bit. Just thinking out loud is all..

Don't worry we are always the Bridesmaid. People drop our name because our fans will flock to their sites giving them a spike in clicks to increase advertising revenue. 03-nutkick
So you think the head of the Liberty Bowl dropped your name for that reason? Yeah, riiiight... Come on, try to be a bit objective.

Relax. I think BYU is still #1 and AFA is #2. Aresco still hasn't mentioned anybody else. ECU being in there is a bit of a newer development, I think, probably a reaction by some eastern schools, since ND left, thus opening a slot for a possible all sports selection.

The Liberty Bowl has probably done as much for ECU as anyone. They were a big reason we got in CUSA in the first place.

Oh I'm calm, just throwing an opinion out there. Navy (or Memphis or Temple) is the team that offset us from 12 and all of those schools are eastern in location. As one of two major geographical outliers, 14 should be west.

Agreed.

ECU doesn't help the East-West balance, and we really need another program to supply content for the late Saturday time slots.

I think both Aresco and Carparelli mentioning in the past week that #14 will likely be a western team probably throws cold water on ECU being the choice in the end.

I can see ECU coming in as all-sports IF they make a MAJOR commitment in basketball. Much like what Memphis is presently doing in football. Other than basketball (and that VERY important in this conference IMO) ECU has a pretty good sports program. The major issue with ECU as I see it is their small TV market. #14 would probably come in in 2015 with Navy.

You mean like dropping 20 million in facility improvements in 1 year (2012) like we're doing right now

Is this that plan where you make a 50k seat arena so the football fans won't know they are at a basketball game until it's too late? 03-lmfao

I don't think our fan support has been an issue.... I mean, we're middle of the pack in attendance with a losing product.... if we start winning, the place will be packed, and expansion will happen

lol, it was just a dig, ECU fans always bring up their football attendance in these discussions on why they should be added.

I don't have a huge problem with ECU. Please leave your meaningless Conference USA arguments at the door, no one cares about C-USA, at all.

Here we have a team that has no problem getting great OOC games, has notched some big wins recently, and sells out a 50k stadium with little effort, and everyone disregards them automatically. We have plenty of markets, but is there a high demand for teams playing in empty stadiums? Remember that football drives the bus, and UCF, SMU, and Houston's basketball programs aren't THAT far ahead of ECU in the grand scheme of things. None of us has done much of note basketball-wise in the last 10 years.

Agreed --- but recall, Memphis and it's basketball most likely got an invite because you guys got invites. And this was in spite of our horrible football. So basketball is an important issue in this conference --- as the Memphis, and to a lesser degree, the Temple invites suggest.

Does the fact that we've been helping to sell out his bowl game since 1994 carry any weight?

Some slight hyperbole about us selling the bowl out, but they were a huge factor in getting us in C-USA in the first place. Had they not insisted to keep the Liberty Bowl bid the C-USA champ or ECU who knows what would have happened.

RE: Steve Ehrhart says BE talking w/ BYU, Air Force, & East Carolina re 14th
I continue to believe that East Carolina getting into the Big East is extremely unlikely, but the one circumstance that has changed with Notre Dame leaving is that the league can accommodate another all-sports member if necessary (and if they're going to add another all-sports member, it needs to be east of Texas). So, I think that there's a slightly larger opening for them compared to a month ago, but that is still contingent upon both BYU and Air Force declining invites.
